just out of curiosity, you want to come by, but that's it and nothing much except for that. try restaurants run by North Korea. but better not try taking pictures of them, otherwise they might hunt you down for camera or phones...
I went to Dandong as I was wanted to see "what I could" of N Korea without going there! The 30 mins in speed boat in town was a complete waste of money and I felt that I was cheated. So with a Chinese local I took a day tour; we went for miles and miles along the river, before stopping for lunch and then paid extra for the speed boat which went into the N Korea side of the dividing river. We were up close with N Korean soldiers bathing and washing in the river, exchanged cigarettes etc etc. - a unique experience! There are also a number of small islands in the (Yalu) river, some belong to China and some are N Korea, Off one island we had stones thrown at us from a local farmers wife who accused the Chinese boat owner of making money out their misery.Downside was the food wasn't necessarily to Western standards. But if you've got to China you'll already know what I mean I have to add that I was the only Westerner on the trip (and I didn't see any others during my trip to Dandong)........but what a day!
