Allow yourself 3 hours to enjoy this memorable gallery and exhibition: the attention to detail, the story of Escher's life, the quality of the exhibits all make this a must do in The Hague
Go to the antique market and combine it with a visit to Escher in the Palace for a full day's enjoyable outing. The Antique and Book Market is held on the Lange Voorhout every Thursday in summer and you will be in the right place to go into the Escher exhibition.
I am not a big fan of museum but this one was quite fun to visit! Except the exhibition of some pieces of Escher they also had some real life examples of his work.
Great collection of Escher's works and history of his life and influences. The building itself is also amazing. Nice cafe in the basement as well.
Situated on the most beautiful street of The Hague. In a former palace the work of Escher looks great. Escher is an unusual artist and his work fascinates everybody. Don"t miss this.
This museum is so special I can't even really describe it. Of course you see different Escher works, which are amazing! But they make it interactive as well! You have to go here if you visit The Hague! The optical illusion picture option is a really cool way to remember your visit.
A beautiful museum, more a temple, for the work of the wonderful art of Dutch artistM. C. Escher.Maurits Cornelis Escher (Leeuwarden, June 17, 1898 - Hilversum, March 27, 1972) was a Dutch artist, who is known for his woodcuts, wood engravings and lithographs, which he often based on mathematical principles. It is housed in a stately palace in the genteel Lange Voorhout on the edge of the center of The Hague and a stone's throw from the Binnenhof. The government center of Netherlands.Queen-mother Emma, great-great grandmother of King Willem-Alexander, used the Palace as a Winter Palace until her death in 1934. She lived in the Palace from 1901 until 1934. Until 1990 the Queens Wilhelmina, Juliana Beatrix and used the Palace.Inside you find yourself in a different environment as compared to the bustle of the city outside. You can here in a quiet vicinity (the best is the week or early morning) view the wondrous works of Escher. With 130 works by 'Escher' printing almost see his entire oeuvre. The highlight of the exhibition is the seven meter long Metamorphosis III. This woodcut is by means of a special, circular arrangement shown to the public for the purpose of the viewer linking eternity and infinityto experience. Besides the famous prints at 'Escher' there can be seen early work, as the Italianlandscapes, study drawings of Moorish mosaics and still lifes. On the basis of logs and lithographic stones his method is explained.Definitely a must if you are visiting The Hague and kbecome acquainted with one of the most interesting of Dutch artists. The museum is easily accessible by public transport and car parks in the area are sufficient. It is on walk from the Central railstation.Opening HoursTuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00 hoursTicket office closes at 16:30Shop closes at 16:50Because it is a listed building, there are unfortunately limited facilities for the disabled.
So interesting! You learn a lot about Escher the person, and how his art has evolved through time, integrating various influences.Interesting also that he saw his art as a business, a source of income.Fascinating the mathematics of his art. The precision. The creativity. The uniqueness.
