国家考古博物馆

单单这个博物馆足以留整天！有无数石像、陪葬品、陶器。全都有很有系统的分类，方便欣赏和了解古代希腊更多。另我惊讶的是，这儿还有埃及的展馆！

每年6月5日国家考古博物馆免费开放，蜜月行程刚好遇上这天。馆内很大，大约逛了三个小时也只是走马观花。有著名的阿加门侬黄金面具，各种陶器，雕塑。建议花一天时间慢慢参观。

觉得没有想象中大，各个馆是按不同的历史时期划分的，要从一个馆进来才能进第二个馆，所以票不能丢。最出名的自然是放在门口的黄金面具，但是里面最震撼的要数黄金饰品，几千年前的手艺居然看上去与现代的相差无几。

距离卫城稍微有点儿远~~不过这里不会阻止你拍照太好了~~东西感觉展出的也比新博物馆多~可惜没有找到那个钱币上的猫头鹰到底在哪

国家考古博物馆，是希腊最著名、规模最大的博物馆，也是欧洲著名的考古博物馆，是世界上研究古代希腊艺术的宝库。这张精美的阿伽门农纯金面具，传说是依照迈锡尼最伟大的君主阿伽门农的面容所打造的，但也有说是比阿伽门农早3个世纪的国王的脸。金项链海神厅内展示的雕像骑马少年，这座雕像是除（宙斯或波塞冬）像之外，全馆展品中的杰作之一，完成时间约在公元前140年，瘦弱的小孩骑在飞奔的马背上，非常生动。宙斯或波塞冬，全馆最著名的雕像就是这座青铜塑像，完成时间约为公园前460年，但这位究竟是万神之父宙斯还是宙斯的兄弟海神波塞冬，到现在仍是个谜。雕像有优美的体形，左手向前水平伸展，右手向后举起，似乎要拿起长矛掷向前方的目标，姿态非常神勇。陶器

Most travellers to Athens head for the amazing and new Acropolis Museum, but take time and go to the Archaeological Museum too.Among other works of art, and some great pottery, it houses the bronze sculpture of the jockey, a marvel of movement , and the Cythaera Mechanism, which is reputed to be the world first Computer, so called because it was found on the seabed of that island, by local fishermen.The Museum is easy to find, and ita a quiet and civilized place. The quality and importance of its exhibits make it a must see if you are interested in Greek Antiquity.

As a history buff this was truly a wonderful experience. It was a journey through the ancient world from before the Mycenaean Civilisation to the end of the Romans. The information at the entrance to each gallery/period was extremely helpful in understanding the development of sculpture/art during the period. Unfortunately, some sections were closed. I most enjoyed the Antikythera Mechanism display. Astounding part of history. Also found too many school children, especially primary aged, who were poorly managed and who should have been in education programs to provide relevance, perspective or empathy. Despite our visit being before the peak tourist season we also had to queue in the cafeteria, which was also expensive.

We visited in early March and what was open was amazing and unforgettable. However, many of the sections were closed (for no apparent reason) which was very disappointing, particularly given that the entrance fee is the same. This is a must-do on any Athens trip but the curators should understand that denying access to visiting tourists does not reflect well on the city.

Great experience, historically and archeologically speaking! The immense amount of knowledge you get by a 3-hour visit (at least), can't be compared with any other visit to similar museums or sites around Athens. The archeological exhibitions & artifacts could have been arranged and curated better, but it's still worth visiting one of the richest archeological sites in Greece.

As my title says, the museum is so poorly run that it is hard to give it a fair rating. The amount of history in the museum is incredible. The exhibits we saw were incredible, especially the temporary exhibit that was there at the time (the Antikythera shipwreck, featuring the Antikythera mechanism). The museum also had a wonderful Egyptian collection, with incredible artifacts. The prehistoric and jewelry collections were also stunning.Now we come to the issue. Both the Bronze and the Vase collections were closed when we went. Unfortunately those were the two collections my wife and I were most looking forward to. When you go to Greece, you think vases, right? And the Bronze collection is supposed to be one of the largest in the world. Guess we'll never know. When we asked the information desk (which consisted of 3 people crammed in what looked like a broom closet) we were told they were closed and would not be open at all. I asked if they would be open at a later date and was told that they do not have the people required to open the sections. They seemed to think that me asking them about these closures was a nuisance instead of their job to answer.Overall, the sections that we saw were full of amazing pieces. The set up and flow of the museum was outdated, making you backtrack through rooms, but nothing major. The biggest issue is the poor management and closures of large sections of the museum with no signs or acknowledgment from the staff. It's sad to think that instead of remembering the stunning artifacts when thinking about the museum, the first thing I remember is the rude service and missing collections that should have been the highlight of the museum.

Firstly, the collections were gorgeous. Especially the Prehistoric collection...it was absolutely stunning, and I'd definitely recommend going. I've never seen artifacts that old with the kind of artistry seen here so well preserved. This is definitely a great experience and I spent a large portion of the day enjoying the collections until the museum closed. Unfortunately it's not the most well managed museum - the signage was inconsistent throughout, with a lot of pieces barely having any description or title. I would have loved to learn more about the specific pieces I was seeing. It seems as though it hasn't been updated in a long time and could use an overall design refresh. Portions of the museum were also closed for no discernible reason - you could look into the sections over a rope and see pieces on display (nothing under construction or being worked on) but the areas were off limits. Finally, a small gripe, but the gift shop closed before the museum did. The museum's website states the hours as consistent with those of the museum, but when I was there (on a busy weekend) it closed a few hours before, so I was unable to visit the shop. This seems like an odd decision, since gift shops seem to do a lot of business at end of day when everyone is on their way out. I love getting my souvenirs at museums so it was rather disappointing. Make sure to check out the shop early if you're interested. Between the the closed areas and gift shop I wonder if the place is just understaffed.

It is a great museum to see Greek archaeology briefly. Good location to find out and enrich the knowledge of Greece, ancient Greece, arts and some vocabulary (as a foreigner) with a incredible speed. Many fine arts are exposed there to remind every visitor how great this country was and how intelligent this nation is. One pity thing is in the cashier while purchasing the ticket, a mid-aged, black hair female stuff was extremely rude, my friend met the similar attitude and we feel really angry and offended and shame for the museum has this kind of stuff at a service post.

This museum is a bit out of the tourist area, but well worth the hike to see it. Not only does the walk from Central Athens entertain with loads of shopping opportunities along the way, the neighborhood is both safe and easy to navigate (if one clings to the main thoroughfares!). The collection inside is unparalleled and if you visit on the first Friday of the month, entrance is free.

We could have spent the entire day here as there was so much to see. The entire archaeology of Greece was laid out here. Guides offer their service but it is rather expensive, and I prefer to go at my own pace.
