We arrived too late to enter the building but enjoyed walking through the whole square and park. The Antigua Catedral de Managua is part of the square, the park, the dome, the historical walk.At 9:00PM the whole area with lite up with 10,000's of LED lights and strips. Interesting. Looks of "lovers" enjoying quiet places to snuggle. Keep verily clean except for around the back areas of the Antigua Catedral de Managua.
There is a small fee, don't remember how much, but we had a cool guide and he explained how it used to be the seat of the govt., how much of the building needs to be repaired and possibly can't be. Also there is art, history, geology, paleontology, culture, and more. One must understand that this is a poor country and museums and such are not high on the list for help from the govt..Go in with an open mind and enjoy.
Viewed many of the so-called tourist sights in the area. For 3 USD, you gain entrance into the palace. There is an English speaking lady who makes her way around the facility to provide insight. There are ancient bones, political photos to view. Murals adorn the wall. The palace is worth your 1-2 hour time and investment. Check it out.
A wonderful lady speaking very good English was my guide. She added great insight into an otherwise bland museum as there are almost no signs in English.
We got here and a man approached us to collect entry money. When we asked the price he esitated and when we said he should give us tickets he said he would write a fatura... This seemed so dodgy that we decided not to visit, to be honest we were not super excited to begin with given the poor comments that we have read about this place.
It was one of the first things we saw upon arrival...somewhat underwhelming. It wasn't open, so we just walked around in the courtyard area. There's not much to look at.
When we were here we were unable to enter, however I gather that this area has recently been improved a lot. Even if you don't have time to go in it is worth a stroll around the outside because it is a beautiful and very impressive building. When in Managua its a land mark worth checking out. There is a large square here where they sometimes have parades and drills for the local police, which is something we witnessed - very impressive also!
for the size of this building, you would expect a great number of exhibit. sad to say it was a bit of a let down. i was hoping to learn more about nicaragua but i guess i went to the wrong museum. great murals by the way.it's centralized to other tourist attraction so makes it worth-it.
We enjoyed seeing the displays, we just wished we had more room to explore on our own rather than having a guide with us.
interesting building with an admission charge. some nice item but located in a less secure are of the city
The national palace/museum was an impressive building by itself, but it also had some very interesting exhibits, covering all aspects of Nicaragua. From the geology, paleontology, and pre-Colombian cultures...to the climate, the arts, and the many cultures/celebrations around the country. We only had about an hour to spend here, but we learned quite a bit. Worth the visit.
The national palace on the main plaza was once the seat of government but has been turned into a museum housing the history and culture of Nicaragua from prehistoric times to the present. Best to enjoy it with one of the friendly and helpful guides to explain all you are seeing and to bring the history of the place to life. Well worth an hour of your time.
A good exhibition of Nicaragua's natural history and culture, especially the artifacts and cultural objects are good.Old style museum with a lot of things on exhibition, but a nice and knowledgeable guide was available, and really made a difference, she explained and pointed out many things I would have missed.Contemporary art exhibition, too. Well worth a visit, not many people though. Easy to find at Plaza de Revolucion; while you are there, don't miss the old cathedral and the park. C$ 80 for tourists, much cheaper for locals.
The modest museum exhibitions are housed in a grand building that, if memory serves, at one time a hotel. Exhibits covered topics from the geological formation of Nicaragua to the diversity of it's indegenous population and the varied art and craft of it's people. There is a very small fee to visit the museum, and the fee included an English speaking guide. The guide was knowledgable, very informative, and answered all of our questions. We would have missed a lot of what the museum had to offer if not for our guide. Strongly recommend taking advantage of the guided tour if you visit this museum. About a 10-15 minute taxi ride from the airport.
Heavy on the natural history of Nicaragua, the museum can easily be toured in under an hour. It mostly has pre-modern displays with a few rooms of art work. Probably appeals to families with kids.
