Yicks!! We are sorry that the young shy barista's were not as helpful as you would have liked. We are always training and working on better service. When folks desire more service &/or information we (Lagunas Adventures) are here to serve. My husband & I are the only English speakers. We wish they had called on us to help you!We are a small family farm in Western rural Panama our entrance road is unpaved. It is by no means 4x4, it is a unpaved ranch road.We host daily visitors in rental cars that pass without care or concern. We are so sorry for your experience when visiting us. Next time please contact Lagunas Adventures for 1st class V.I.P. service.
Our family had planned to visit for a couple of hours for a horseback tour through the farm and a walk up to the lake. We ended up staying the whole afternoon and had an amazing day.My young daughter (8yrs) and I went on the horseback tour through the property which was lovely and the weather was perfect. My husband and son (15yrs) tried a bit of fishing on the lake and afterward we met up at the coffee shop. Emily was a sincere and enthusiastic hostess and we hope to meet again on future visits to this area. Thank you for helping making this day memorable Emily! What a beautiful romantic setting!
THe place is way up near the Costa Rica border but is a great place to visit. You can see how this high quality coffee is harvested and processed and realize what is entailed in the bean production.Loved the place.
I went with a birding group (Cheepers!) to this combination of coffee plantation, "national park", and sophisticated dining. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. It was one of the highlights of my 16-day visit to Panama January 2015.The owners are great hosts with a very interesting, historical background. The birding was great but there is much to do for everyone. And wow - the coffee and outdoor lunch. I was like Downton Abbey with a view of the volcanoes.I plan to take my kids on a future visit to Panama.
Our birding group visited the farm one morning and had a wonderful time. Watching for birds in a spectacular setting was the highlight of this area. Trails through the jungle made it very easy to keep eyes on the lookout for birds and views. The tower climbs up above the canopy and our necks and shoulders were given a break as we were at eye level with the many colorful aves. Coffee is a welcome refreshment and picker upper. Later. Our hosts Luigi and Janet, prepared a delicious lunch served outdoors on their beautiful grounds. A demonstration of an ancient sugar cane mill for extracting sugar juice was quite interesting. A must stop for travelers to this part of the world.

We are a popular Agro-Tourism destination and our Coffee Shop is open everyday from 9-5.We are very sorry for your inconvenience.Next time "Please Call" for a reservation as we are booking~up all of the time. Our goal is to have exceptional client care and great tours. We truly hope that you come back.
My daughter and I first took an early morning tour to learn about the Panamanian birds, and then added the Janson Geisha Coffee tour. Leif, our birding guide, and Emily, our coffee tour guide made us feel so welcome. The tour was extremely interesting and we learned so much, about local birds, where to find them and what they eat. We also heard about the local micro climate, some of the plants that grow on the land and rain-filled lakes. After that we toured the plantation to learn about growing, harvesting and processing coffee. It was fascinating to see the different coffee plants, even taste a coffee bean and see the differences in coffee plants. It was a thoroughly enjoyable tour, and the tasting of the unique Geisha coffee as well as learning how to brew the perfect cup was delighful. One thing that impressed me besides the tour was how environmentally consciously the Janson family takes care of its land, how well they take care of their workers and their children and how sustainably their production is. I would like to highly recommend this tour.
If you want to do a coffee tour and/or birdwatching, come here! My mother and I did the birdwatching and VIP Geisha coffee tour on the Janson Farm. It was by far one of my best experiences in Panama! Leif and Emily are kind, gracious, and extremely knowledgeable guides. We scheduled the birdwatching adventure for 6 am (to try to capture the best lighting and bird activity). Leif and Emily immediately offered us coffee and refreshments upon our arrival and took the time to get acquainted before beginning the tour. Leif then personally drove us all over the farm property, making frequent stops to point out species and explaining to us (birdwatching novices) how to recognize them. Even if you have never birded I highly recommend Leif's tour! His passion and birding expertise made it a truly enjoyable experience! After birding, Emily personally showed my mother and I around the farm, sharing the Janson family history, coffee-making process, etc. The tour was in-depth and very engaging--Emily took us to the nursery, through the plantation, and the processing plant. The time flew by! At the end we did a tasting of the Geisha coffee (delicious) and Emily shared tips on making the perfect cup (you'll have to do take the tour to find out what they are!). We bought two packages of Janson Family Coffee which were very reasonably priced at $4.50 each (which was a wonderful break from often overpriced giftshops). All in all, a huge thumbs up to the Janson Coffee Farm! They have my highest recommendation!
I had such a pleasant time there. Everyone is so nice. Their coffees are delicious. Buy the geisha and their family arabica, you will not regret it (also cheaper there!). The arabica is my favorite coffee, no matter how you make it, its delicious. I have even made lightweight coffee drinkers espressos, and they have loved them. The tour is fantastic.
We were lucky enough to stay in the Casita on the Janson Family Coffee Farm for spring break. This is the most magical, relaxing and beautiful place!!Lagunas Adventures really completed the magic of our stay. We first enlisted Leif to take us on a bird watching excursion. We saw many wonderful birds, including the blue dacnis, a Kingfisher and a Bayheaded Tanager. Leif adjusted perfectly to our pace (we had our 7 and 9 year old daughters along) but it was clear that he would be a great guide for any level of bird watcher! Our next excursion with Lagunas Adventures was a coffee tour with Emily. This is a must-do if you are anywhere near Chiriqui! It was so interesting to learn about the history of the estate, coffee growing and specifically the Geisha!! We got to see every aspect of the coffee process, from the berry to the roasted bean. Emily was the perfect guide for adults and children!!!!If you are here for a few days, a kayak on the peaceful lakes is also a must. I also took a private yoga class with Emily and it was amazing!! I have taken a lot of yoga and Pilates over the years, and Emily was one of the only instructors that adapted the class perfectly to my skills/needs.Lagunas Adventures has something for everyone!!!!
This place is absolutely amazing and my girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I was attracted by the name of the place, I can't imagine any four words that are more perfectly aligned with my interests, and the experience confirmed my initial attraction. The house is an incredible place to stay and only trumped by the surrounding beauty and hosts. We enjoyed hiking around the property, tasting world class coffee, fishing, kayaking, 'star gazing', playing with the resident dogs, and watching birds while we ate our breakfast on the floating dock. Emily and Leif made us feel welcome and were very accommodating even when our initial arrival plans changed at the last minute. They made sure we had everything that we needed and our local caretaker, Anna, was the sweetest woman with a warm heart. We were extremely happy with our stay and honored that we could help support Emily and Leif's efforts to preserve this beautiful place while still enjoying it's fruits.
We spent a long weekend on the Janson Coffee Farm in February 2014, staying in the little casita by the lake, and to say that this place exceeded our expectations would be an understatement. The casita itself a beautiful little holiday home, right by the lake, and it was big enough to comfortably fit four of us while still feeling cosy and calm. We enjoyed access to the lake and the little dock as well as the ability to kayak and to train in the small gym overlooking the water, and we were pleasantly surprised when the staff brought us fresh fruit, coffee and wine and repeatedly checked in to check that we were wanting for nothing. We were also thrilled to find three gorgeous and playful dogs on the property, making the casita feel like a real home away from home. Emily was a wonderful host, taking the time to ensure that we were settled in and comfortable as well as recommending restaurants and attractions in the area and introducing us to the staff. As well as the delightful little cafe a short drive away from the casita, there are many activities to be enjoyed in the area, including hiking, coffee tours, kayak tours and nature / night time photography. However, if you're looking for a week of pure relaxation, you would be hard pressed to find anywhere better; quiet, spectacularly beautiful and tastefully decorated, the casita is worth the money and more, and we're already finding excuses to go back.
We were pleased to visit the Janson coffee farm near Volcan in Panama. We were warmly greeted by Emily Janson who explained about some of the many tour options including, of course, tasting some of the Janson coffee brands. We walked to the tasting room and were introduced to the staff and had a presentation on the types of coffee produced by the Janson coffee plantation. After sampling both the Geisha and the other Janson products, we chatted on the many tour options and decided on the two hour plantation tour.Emily then drove us through the plantation nursery where we saw many different types of coffee and other plants produced by the plantation. Every question posed was answered in depth and when Emily was unsure of an answer she was quick to say so. Throughout the three hours of our two hour tour, Emily's presentation was detailed and informative and most refreshingly presented. (Seldom have we ever had a tour guide so well-prepared nor so competent in his or her presentation.)Following the nursery tour, we went to the coffee fields and had a through a discussion of the history of the plantation. We went to the original site of the first Janson residence in the early 1920s. This facility is gorgeous building on a most impressive freshwater lake – reportedly the highest freshwater lake in Panama.Emily is a self-professed naturalist who stopped many times to show us interesting flora and fauna - especially some of the many bird spicies. Indeed, apparently a number of bird-watching tours take place on the Janson estate lands.Following the estate tour, we went through the processing part of our day . We saw firstly the receiving area where the coffee bean is separated from the skin. We then say huge outdoor concrete drying slabs where the moisture content is lowered. Finally, the coffee is warehoused, processed, ground and finally packaged. In sun, Emily Janson presented one of the most informative and well- presented tours we have ever enjoyed. Please consider this site. You will not be disappointed.
We had such an amazing time staying at the casita on the lake. The location itself is to die for - gorgeous, tranquil, relaxing. And the house has everything you need for your stay. Super clean, comfortable and very beautifully appointed. The Jansen family, along with their staff, went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, including bringing us fresh fruit and wine. We can't say enough about our experience! There is so much to do on the property and in the area, including kayaking, coffee tours, fishing, hiking, etc. We spent most of our time just relaxing and taking in the scenery but we're already planning a trip back to participate in some of the fun activities. We were originally planning a trip to Boquete when we stumbled upon Lagunas Adventures and are very, very glad we changed our plans and went to Volcan instead. If you have the opportunity to visit, do NOT miss it!
The nearly 3hrs tour given by Leif this afternoon has exceeded all our expectations!! Such a thorough, interesting and passionate introduction of the coffee world! Well worth a drive from Panama City and surely one of the main ones on the to do list in Panama! Excited to hear from everyone how they find the Geisha coffee I am bringing as a present. Thank you so much for this superb afternoon!
