This is the second largest buddhist settlement in India. The Golden temple and the statues inside are a real beauty. Its on the way from Mysore to Coorg.
Been @ Dharamshala & Bylakuppe in the last 2 years, for an outsider (which we are mostly) this place stands out 100 times better. Grandeur of this place makes it a repeat visit place....
A very peaceful and calming monastery on the way from Coorg to Mysore. Though the place is visited by hundreds of people every day, it was not noisy or disturbing. The big gold statues gave the place a very divine feel. If you are anywhere near the monastery, make sure you take out some time and visit this place
Amazing MUST SEE tourist site.Only suggestion would be to find out the prayer timings and go before/after that as you can not enter the temples when prayer is in service.
I was surprised when I learnt that there is a monastery in South India. And seeing is believing. You will be taken to Himalayas as soon as you enter the place. Beautiful temple. Best time to visit is around 12.30 p.m. noon time when they have their prayer. Worth watching the entire ceremony. Food at their restaurant opposite the monastery in the shopping area is good and reasonably priced. I had Fried MOMOs and they were excellent with spicey garlic Chutney. Recommend to all.
The Monastery in Coorg is even better than some of them in Sikkim, its grand peaceful and inviting. The beautiful flowers and wall paintings are perfect for photography buffs. Once inside the monastery it was difficult to believe that I was actually travelling in southern state of India!
The place is run (if not owned) by the Tibetans. But it doesn't seem to be a bad thing. They are genuinely nice people. The temple itself is maintained extremely well. The main shrine where the 3 gigantic statues of Buddhas are kept is simply amazing. The colours around the statues and peace and quiet are well worth the visit.
Peaceful place, for obvious reasons.. its a Tibetan settlement, with a monastery & some small businesses around. Spend an hour inside, unless the tourists are loud, the place is very very silent/peaceful.you will see the Buddhist monks around, praying.. walking around.. its their place.. respect that..
I went to almost all the major sight seeing areas in Coorg and this was the most interesting of all.. The large temple hall where you will find Buddhist idols with numerous wall paintings is fascinating.. The sight of Buddhist monks in prayer in main hall reminded me of a scene in Kung fu movies.. Well maintained well protected area with few temples inside the monastery.. Worth spending your time...
This is a fabulous Tibetan settlement. The place is amazingly clean and inspiring. The serene environment, the chanting of the Buddhist hymns at prayers, the fragrance of the incense will all leave you with a memorable visit that you will cherish for a long time.
The colorful architecture was what struck me most here. Beautifully landscaped all around, the entrance was inviting. The murals outside and on the inner sanctum were so beautiful.. most of them being similar to the Hindu mythology depictionsThe sanctum was huge and invited one to just sit and meditate upon oneself. The huge golden idols had a story each and were beautifully carved, emanating peace from their faces.Lying on the way to Coorg - this is a must visit. The canteen inside also gives one a taste of "Local Khana" though with a limited spread.
The architecture... the calm and peaceful environment..... the tibetian culture. this place is one must watch place.
One of the best attraction around Coorg. we saw hundreds of monk sitting in a large temple hall and chanting some mantras and playing a large drum sort of thing was mesmerising. Must visit.
A really lovely monastery to visit. As a Buddhist it felt like home. The statues inside are stunning and even though it was a Sunday with lots of visitors, it was still relatively peaceful. Well worth visiting - as is Sera Je/Sera May Monastery which is 4 kms away ( over 3000 monks are at Sera Je)
