由于传奇的发现经过，Ajanta石窟比Ellora更多一层传奇色彩。虽然很多人说看了Ajanta会有些失望，甚至建议在时间紧张的情况下可以放弃，但至少Ajanta没有让我失望。Ajanta的精华是里面的壁画。最神奇的是，在印度的潮湿气候下，经过这么多年，壁画的颜色保存如新，不知道是由于工艺的原因，还是环境的因素。总之，我们看到的壁画，基本就是当年的样子，这是敦煌壁画的差距。雕刻呢，虽然不像Ellora的印度教寺庙那样奇特，但是中正平和，也十分优美。对于Ajanta这样的石窟群来说，除了石窟本身的艺术性，石窟所在的大环境也很重要，Ajanta石窟的自然环境比Ellora更美，马蹄形的山体、瀑布、河谷都有它得天独厚的美。最为难得的是，Ajanta游客不多，游得轻松自在。无论是喜欢亲近自然，还是热爱石窟艺术，在Ajanta都可以找到自己的兴趣所在。从Aurangabad来往6小时车程，不虚此行。

去阿旃陀的路上会经过好多这样的小镇子。司机有时口渴了就下来从路边摊拿一罐水喝，顺便买包烟什么的。阿旃陀：在 停车场下车，还要走到几十米外的公交站坐专门去景区的巴士。一路上会经过一个景区购物的地方，有很多人会人来推销东西。只要你坚定但友好地拒绝，他们基本 不会对你怎么样。夹杂在这些人里的还会有些导游，如果你懂英文而且想认真看这些石窟，那么建议你还是请个导游，他们一般收几百个卢比，不然进去真有点两眼 一抹黑，不知道看什么的感觉。坐巴士那里有很多人排队，不过基本他们会让外国游客先上车。不要客气，努力挤上车，因为美国人欧洲人韩国人 什么的也不见得会让你，挤不上的话可能有要等好一会。去程是7卢比一个人，返程是12卢比一个人，上车的时候买票，最好准备好零钱。下了巴士之后才是售票 处，250卢比一个人。我们大概11点半开始看，一直到4点半才结束。基本所有洞窟进去都要脱鞋，最好穿易脱的鞋。时间要平均分配，几个出名、好看的窟集 中在后半部分，不要把太多的时间和精力耗在前面，到后面会走不动的。有些好心的职员会帮你介绍，但是有些贪心的会主动上来给你介绍，完了想你讨消费。最好 准备些零钱，基本上给10、20卢比就可以打发了。有些人会厚脸皮的要多一点，那些就看你的心情了，你也可以友好地拒绝再给更多的小费的。窟内光线很暗， 如果你要看清楚，建议自己带一把电筒（当然如果你请导游，他们会随身带的）。窟内是不可以用闪光灯照相的，当然总是有人不守规矩；建议你不要丢国人的脸， 保护人家的文物，这都是保留了几千年的东西。4点半离开基本上能在6点半赶回城里，天刚刚开始黑。阿旃陀是每周一休息。半个全景，爬上左边的山头可以照到全景，书上说走四十分钟可以到当时英国人第一次发现阿旃陀的地点，适合拍照全景，但是看完一圈洞窟之后已经完全没有力气再爬山了。阿旃陀以壁画为主，但是比较难照，还是贴些石刻的出来吧。

参观过阿旃陀石窟群后着实令人惊叹。它位于距奥兰加巴德约100千米的地方,去那里的路很平坦。这确实是不负于世界文化遗产之名的石窟群。追溯到公元前2年的丰富文化让人大开眼界。绘画及雕塑作品的细节处理让人称奇。但亲眼所见又不得不相信。2000年前的人穿的衣服以及其风格,让你充分感受到他们超前于当今的时尚品味。只能用惊奇来形容。这能让你感到自己很渺小,能成为这光荣文化历史的一部分会让你感到无比自豪。

阿旃陀石窟群的佛教壁画绝对是是世界艺术的高峰,看看我的总结吧,相信会对你有帮助的。1.壁画非常古老而且脆弱,只能远观。遗憾的是,画又很小,所以带上望远镜吧,要不然什么都看不见。2.买本关于佛本生故事的书,有助于你理解壁画的细节。佛本生故事讲的是佛的生活,跟《圣经》很像,很有意义。如果事先不看书,就不能完全了解壁画。B. Behl的《佛本生故事》有漂亮的插图,非常不错,里面还有各种神话传说。此外,那儿不让拍照。我在孟买的泰姬陵酒店的书店看到了这本书,去之前记得买本看看,这点非常重要。3.带把光线强一点的手电。我在Aurangabad找了一下,没发现很亮的手电。壁画的细节已经渐渐褪色,所以手电光线越强越好,那里也没有限制手电亮度的标志。4. 阿旃陀石窟群是印度的骄傲,也是这个国家的主要景点之一,但几乎没人会带齐我上面说的东西。因此,很多人很快就觉得厌烦了,因为看不懂。早上这里人很多,下午人少一些。我们很幸运地带着所有工具去了,玩得很开心。阿旃陀石窟群是世界上最重要的景点和艺术作品之一,所以去之前需要好好准备一番。

我们刚从印度的奥兰加巴回来一周。这座城市的气候很宜人,有上百个景点可以参观。我们参观了埃罗拉石窟、舍尔第、巴拉吉庙、毕比卡马克巴拉陵等地,但我们觉得最棒的还是26阿旃陀石窟群。真的令人叹为观止。雕工如此的精致,绘画也是独具匠心。一定要亲眼见识一下。另外,石窟是半圆形的,其实每个石窟是连在一起的,与埃罗拉石窟不同。尽管埃罗拉石窟的雕像更为壮观,但是你一定会为阿旃陀石窟群的气势所折服。每幅绘画都价值上百万美元,你会不禁为这些壁画而惊叹。一点建议-石窟内禁止开闪光灯。所以在石窟内要使用不开闪光的相机拍照。摄像的话只能从石窟外拍摄,虽然不能把所有的都记录下来,但是从入口到石窟也有很多可记录的,这些已经足够做纪念的了。总之,阿旃陀石窟群之行令人兴奋不已。

如果你去那附近玩的话,一定不能错过阿旃陀石窟群。我们请了一个司机送我们去阿旃陀石窟和爱楼拉石窟。当时我们是住在离爱楼拉很近的奧兰卡巴。阿旃陀石窟里面有令人叹为观止的壁画和雕刻。只不过你必须要穿过一个当地市场才能到去石窟的乘车点。石窟里面有导游,你可以花钱请一个,他会跟你介绍所有的东西的。我建议大家最好请一个导游,不过人数最好不要超过8-10人。

Ajanta and Ellora have always been a mystic temptation ever since I read about them in my history books. Located near Aurangabad, Maharashtra, it is a mere 6 hour drive from Pune, well within reach for a weekend trip. I planned to drive out of Pune, very early on a Saturday morning, cover Ajanta Caves the same day, and on my way back on Sunday have a go at Ellora. The best time to visit the caves would be the winter months (December, January and the first 2 weeks of February) and the rain months (June and July). I made this trip in the beginning of February and found the weather a little on the warmer side. Here’s how it went.Day-1: Started from Pune at 5:30am sharp to evade morning city traffic. The drive by State Highway27 and MH60 was very good and I picked up speed of around 110kmph. Had a surprisingly lovely opportunity to see sunrise by the countryside. Café Coffee Day (along with a no. of local good food junctions) appeared right by the highway at around 7:30am when the GPS showed I was near Ahmednagar. The junction opposite CCD was good, idly-sambar/dosa/chai were fresh. You wouldn’t get cigarettes though, and unless a gentleman borrowed me one, I would have had to stop again.The drive from Ahmednagar to Aurangabad was not so great and tended to slow me down with potholes and traffic. Aurangabad to Ajanta was miserable. The road was one lane each direction and a layer of tarmac seemed to have come off in a clumsy way all along the stretch. Surprised that the government does not care/cure this one road that leads to Ajanta, one of our greatest historical prides of all times.Looped in MTDC on the T, had a bath (did not eat a meal here) and took the 5 minute bus ride to the caves at Ajanta. Noteworthy, you cannot bring your car past the T as the caves are a protected place as also are the woods around the caves. Ate a lovely lunch at MTDC restaurant right by the caves where the bus stops. They also serve beverages, beer.Right out of the restaurant stands the great Ajanta. All you want to do is stroll from one cave to the next, reflecting on the designs and paintings and the prayers and meditations that stood out as a culture more than 2000 years ago. Very well maintained caves and a rich afternoon spent on the beautiful (by all standards) stretch. On the way back, we saw monkeys being fed the day’s leftover bananas and heard about recent sightings of leopards in the nearby woods. The caves are open till 5:30pm.If you are to see Ajanta, you must stay at MTDC on the T. It is secluded, resort like, very well maintained, has rooms that are cottage like with semi-private lawns, and are closest to the caves. Evening/night will mesmerize you with the view of hills and woods all around. Here, you would expect to be very close to nature, hear nothing but animals and insects, and see nothing but darkness and woods around you. The rooms (insides) were not that great and a modern makeover is called for. However, the location and overall setting of the resort will draw me every time I plan to visit the caves. The caretaker lad is very helpful and would bring you wine and dine from the nearby market. Day-2: Started at 7:00am sharp. Somebody tipped me to take the shortcut between Ajanta and Ellora. I wouldn’t pass this to you as the road is a hell and only saves you about 30 kms. However, cotton is grown adjacently and you would find raw cotton all along the road, which was pleasantly surprising for my kid. Ellora is big, allows cars in specific locations and is a combination of Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism sculptures built richly over a 600-700 year period. The biggest and probably the best is the Kailasha Shiva Temple, cut out of a single chunk of rock, amazingly carved with delicate decorations and stands at least 2 floors high. Cave curators will direct you to the remaining caves you need to see. Be aware that bats live in some of the caves and their droppings smell horrible. As with Ajanta, you would want to do a lot of research before visiting Ellora. Solicitation, especially from the locals and cave maintenance, is expressly uncalled for and the ‘Archaeological Survey of India’ need to check this. There is an MTDC restaurant right inside Ellora premises where you would like to have your lunch.There are at least 3 more historical places that you would like to consider while around Aurangabad – Daulatabad Fort, Bibi ka Maqbara and a mini Ellora. However, it will be unadvisable to squeeze them in on a weekend trip, especially with a 6 hour drive waiting on you.

Just amazing! One should try your hands on the two pillars carved out of stone which emit the sound of "Tabla". A Single statue of Buddha can show three expressions when you reflect sunlight from three different angles.

Must visit place but try it during rainy season as the waterfalls here will take your breadth away. You must try to reach its view points as the whole caves look so beautiful from here. The Waghur River that passes from here makes a small pond after the last cave downwards where you can enjoy in water for some time. Its a truly amazing place and ofcourse the art is excellent in the caves. Maintained properly by Govt.

stunning , thats probably the only word which explains ur feelings when u visit the place and have a look at the lovely paintings, preserved nicely by goi,a must visit spot when u r arround.

This is a must see destination. Outstanding sculptures and paintings predating Christ. Plan on getting here when they open at 9am to avoid the crowds. I was here in March and the morning was cool but it can get a lot warmer in the afternoon. The shade is cool and there is a breeze through the canyon. Wear easily removable footwear as you will be required to remove shoes at each cave. Bring water and be prepared to walk and climb. Do not carry too much, a load can get heavy fast. I would suggest buying a book before you get here and do some reading. Cave 17 has the famous Apsara. Get a guide if you really want info. There is a porter service to carry people to the top. AboutRs 1200. Plan on walking up to the scenic overlook which is across the river. a steep climb. Be warned that you will be pestered by hawkers. Best approach is to say "next time" once and not say more. You will have to take a bus from the Visitor Center to the top.

Must visit , awesome sculpture .Such a peaceful place and the most important one of the most maintained heritage site in India ...Incredible India

One of the best peace of art in history....you have to see to believe how beautiful it is...one day is not enough to see it and if possible go after monsoon...it will be divine....and do not take a vehicle from stands they offer, you won't need it..and you can take your own vehicle till the end..

un beliveable paintings. Every indian must see these. Remember to carry water, and easy slip on shoes, as one needs to take off the shoes before entering some caves. Also you must hire a guide.

excellent place for history lovers and who loves photography and paintings and art - must visit these caves
