This lovely square is at the heart of the original city of Camaguey. The buildings are beautifully restored - like stepping back in time.

I love this place because it had a lot of history, marvelous places and a cool atmosfere. I love the souvenirs too!!!

Also called Plaza del Padre Olallo, to commemorate a priest José Olallo y Valdés (1820 – 1889) who used to care for the poor of the city of Camagüey. He was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI and the beatification ceremony took place in Camagüey, presided by Cardinal Jose Saraiva Martins; the President of Cuba, Raul Castro, attended the ceremony as well. It is one of the most picturesque plazas and a gem of colonial architecture, with rows of renovated buildings. The church that dominates the plaza, Iglesia de San Juan de Dios, was unfortunately closed. There were several stands selling souvenirs and at least two restaurants.

Arrived at this wonderful Plaza ,through the maze of streets ,some very narrow .I think we would have got lost .Quieter than some of the other Plazas ,but still lots to see large church and other buildings some be ending used as restaurants ,others as Art galleries .

Camagüey is a total maze of Streets. There are few straight ones and it is complicated to find the right ones. Nonetheless a city walk is pleasant and should include this lovely square. To me it had a distinct Mexican feel to it and was totally different from the other squares in town.

The Plaza has a church, a museum, and lots of really nice art galleries in the immediate area. What is nice is these are Cuban artists, working in their shop. You don't have to look and wonder if these are shipped in from china, you can see the artist working in wood, leather, painting, .... We bought a leather mask just off the Plaza. The wood sculptor has a sense of humor, the ... Go, enjoy and visit the artists at work

It is a very picturesque square in the heart of the old, colonial Camaguey. Very nice church, and colourful buildings around. For some reason I found this square very stylish and very carribean, it is my favourite Camaguey square. Another advantage: if you are hungry, you will find there really good restaurants (we recommend Restaurante 1800, just on the corner). It's simple, you just have to have look at Plaza San Juan de Dios when you visit Camaguey.

One of the eight or nine principal plazas in this city! All well within a walking distance from each other, if you have a day or two.You can of course hire a bicycle taxi. You do not have to try very hard to find one. They will find you.If you visit during a rain storm, as I did, there are some restaurants you can take a shelter and lunch.

Arguably the most photogenic church and square in Camaguey, features a nice wooden ceiling and excellent view from the church tower.

Plaza San Juan de Dios is like going back in time, but although you will find several restaurants (1800 is the best among them) the animation is still missing at least during day time..

Retirada

Plaza San Juan is a lively place with good restaurants, classic cars waiting for customers and kids playing soccer.
