encuentro beach

I like this beach for its location (not too many people), water clarity, and sandy feel.The beach is located about a 5 minute walk from The Coconut Palms hotel. Going to the beach is easy (all downhill) and coming back may be a bit harder for some elder guests going up the hill.The water is clear, much clearer than the beach in the town of Cabarete. At Encuentro you can see to the bottom and maybe 4-5 feet in through the water. At the beach in Cabarete you can't even see your own hand in front of you in the water.The sand was very, very nice. There were a few rocks when first entering the water but nothing that hurts your feet. Once you pass those it's awesome! Very fine sand that feels wonderful while you're in the water.The waves here are large. Be very careful to not go out too deep. If you have children under 13 or so I would be hesitant to let them in the water alone. The undertow is pretty powerful.This is my favorite beach in the Cabarete/Sosua area. Not a lot of people, very small amount of rocks while in the water so you won't get scraped up, and the water is clean and clear.

An amazing way to pass the day, watch the professionals (or some not so professional) do thier thing. Some pretty talented locals as well. If you are going to get out there practice or speak with the locals as there could be some dangerous spots....BE SAFE in the water.

We have enjoyed a couple of days at Encuentro surfing. Definitely bring surf shoes or get a good pair where you rent your board. The rock is very hard on your feet and many of the rental shoes have holes. The further down the beach you go the worse it is. That said we found fewer surfers further down so it was worth the effort. We're beginners so we're standing/walking more than the "experts".

The local surfers are jerks. Super rude, bullies who literally yell at you for catching a wave when they are trying to swim past the break, and then yell at you when they catch a wave and you're swimming out past the break. Just jerky jerks! But if you have thick skin, you can really catch some nice long waves here!

We had a great time at this beach, it's so full of life and there are nice shady areas to sit. We don't surf but if we did this would be the perfect place to learn. We enjoyed sitting watching the action although it was hard to swim at this beach.

There were no activities on the beach except surfing. I don't surf, so all I did was walk the beach and then went back to my room.

If you're into surfing or are a even a first timer, go here as they have equipment for hire and great surf schools.

My husband enjoyed the consistent reef break for 4-5 hours every morning. I enjoyed the sand, sun, people & beach dogs. Highly recommended!!

Waves of different sizes everyday, plenty of surf shops, rocky bottom with urchins so booties are important, great for beginners and pros, one very unclean bathroom

We stayed at Coconut Palms for a week so we walked down to the beach every day. For some reason it just wasn't good surfing conditions so it wasn't packed with people. I love the shoreline. The rocks peek out as the tide goes out, invisible at high tide. The resort palapas and bar were ok, but we generally walked off a ways in either direction for a remote experience. We walked to the west past two extruding points of sand until we came to a community where the grass was manicured and walked back on the road. In doing so we were able to see horses grazing freely along the roadside and a farm with cattle and pigs. A perfect location for that purpose. Watching the animals made my day. We enjoyed each of our walks and we loved just floating along the rolling sea and laying in the warm sand.

We where chaffered to still amazing site where we had a fantastic lunch and did a little shopping too. people there and along our way were very respectful we enjoyed it very much

I have he the good fortune to surf many of the top breaks in the world -- from Uluwatu, to Jeffrey's Bay, to Malibu (my home break), to Sunset, Pipe, Kisers, Rangi Roa, France, Colombia, Rincon, Soup Bowls, Brandon's, and on, and on. Encuentro Beach is a wonderful place for any surfer. Fun, consistent surf with an active surf culture, and non-agro local crowd, and tons of newbies to always keep the energy high. If you're in Cab, paddle out at Encuentro and catch an early morning session -- it gets blown out by 10.

100 pesos ride from cabarete, encuentro has great waves, lots of space for everyone and plenty of rentals available. great sunrises.

very family friendly beginner-surfer friendly beach with very consistent waves - can be quite crowded with surfers of all levels. if you will be in the shallows water shoes are a must because rocks and urchins are a harsh reality. If you are new to the beach and surfing I'd definitely get an instructor to accompany you for a session, even if you've got some experience, having someone local go out with you as a mentor/buddy to familiarize could be a good idea. Several surf shacks at the beach, prices for instruction are super reasonable here. I liked the guys at Pauhana. Cant wait to return.
