There are at least two Guayacanes beaches before Juan Dolio proper. To me, these are less crowded and very beautiful. The main Guayacanes beach has a sign from the highway/access road. You can park (for 100dp) and then wander the beach to a spot with chairs/lounges and umbrellas (you have to pay for sitting there - ?300dp), swim and relax, order something to eat or drink. It's usually not crowded at all and it seems that locals like to go there as well.

To close to Santo Domingo, so the city empties on to the beach every chance they can. Not safe most of the time. Beach ok but there are better.

Juan Dolio is definitely the best beach that is close to the capital city of Santo Domingo. It lies about 40 minutes east of Santo Domingo (60 km or 36 miles) on the same highway (Rte 3) that leads to Boca Chica, San Pedro, La Romana and Punta Cana. On one occasion, some friends and I caught a real cheap bus to Juan Dolio ($2 US money) that departed from a bus depot near Parque Independencia in the capital. I forget the name of the bus company. One another occasion, my friend who lives in Santo Domingo, drove those same friends and I to Juan Dolio. The first thing that I noticed about Juan Dolio was the tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. Yes there were some people on the beach, but it was not overly crowded like Boca Chica Beach. Additionally, there were not many bothersome merchants like the kind you would encounter at Boca Chica. I definitely loved the fact that I could enjoy being on a beach without being harassed every minute. Of course the beach itself is very pretty and picturesque. The water is blue and clear for the most part. Not dirty at all. I really had the feel of being at a real beach. There are several choices of nice restaurants along the beach. The one I visited (I forget the name, but will return there soon), had great food, good margaritas, all around great service. I am planning to return to Santo Domingo within several weeks of submitting this review. You can bet that I will be going to Juan Dolio Beach upon my return.

Living here in the capital, I make Juan Dolio a beach destination. The small restaurants are very relaxed and the food is local, and good. I lived in Juan Dolio for three years and have always kept a special place in my heart for the beaches.

We happened to go during the week which meant almost deserted beach which was wonderful. You can pay for a table which includes a lounging chair plus chairs around the table. The surrounding kiosks will send someone with food options. For 350.00 pesos (about $8.00) you can have the most delicious red snapper fried with fried plantains. Definitely beach food. You can also get a local to climb the coconut tree for a refreshing "coco de agua" for about .60 cents. Great atmosphere

This is a beautiful beach and you dont get harrassed to death at this beach like you do at others near by. We swam walked and relaxed most of the day in Juan Dolio. When we got hungry a guy who worked at the property on the part of the beach we were on went and got us this amazing fish and mangu meal and a few beers. Everything was reasnoably priced. We were on vacation in Santo Domingo for a week. We decided to take a bus ride out to Juan Dolio and it was a great side trip. Michelle

It´s a popular beach where all the locals go to have a nice and quiet day at the beach, there are several options to eat. the beach is clean and very children friendly beacuse there are no waves

This is the closest beach to the city of Santo Domingo. It is a fun place to enjoy the music and water. There are several nice shops and restaurants to enjoy the side excursion

Juan Dolio Guayacanes is a good beach. Not necessarily always the cleanest or safest beach, but it is generally an ok beach.

we went on a holiday so the beach was packed, parking was a nightmare, and the water crowed til 4pm, and the water itself is very sticky once you leave- very odd- must take a shower upon exiting the water. also if you want a place to sit some of the restaurants will set up chairs and an umbrella to be included with the purchase of drinks or food- but dont expect speedy service- took almost 2 hours for some pasta and fish... also make sure you plan on when you leave because it was worse then LA rush hour traffic trying to drive home to the city

Juan Dolio and Guayacanes, two separate beaches on the caribbeab sea about 35 kms east os Santo Domingo. Juan Dolio is more developed, with restaurants and condos and hotels. Guayacanes is more laid back, less developed. Both are enjoyable visits.

We were there just in our way to another city and we stop to eat in a restaurant in the beach… not nice at all, it was the beach were we could see more white disgusting guys with very very young ladies. Is sad but true, so we don’t recommend this place to anyone

There are worse beaches in the world. The breeze is refreshing, many of the beachside restaurants have tasty food. The water is calm and warm. However one should not be surprised to finds such floatable solids as used diapers in the water.

Certainly, Juan Dolio and Guayacanes beaches are pretty close to the city Santo Domingo, but they keep the environment in good condition, a lot sea birds, clear water, and certain sea life. Is scare to me the people want to take life from the beach like souvenirs. Even those beaches every day are more privatize, still the public can enjoy it, or be in the different club and restaurants. Really you can enjoy a good bathing, have a good time, a come back safe to the town.
