We came to see the sunset from the best place to see one in Vieques (as the reviews go). We parked on the street-did not notice a parking lot. The sunset was okay but not a big deal. The deck to view it is very small and lacks any shade so you will sweat if you sit there. Wear shades, a hat & very cool clothes. There is no table service-order every drink & meal from the bartender. She is the only one and works so hard you will have to wait for her. It's a very laid back bar that locals like to meet at (many Americans who moved here). Food was pretty good - had pork sandwich, fries were really good (fresh cut & nice and well done). Painkiller is good but not quite same as that at the infamous Soggy Dollar Bar in Jost Van Dyke (BVI near Tortola). Don't expect a wine selection of any kind. Best bet is beer.

I had read that this was a nice place to go for sunset. Truthfully, you will not see the sun actually set upon the water due to the location of this restaurant and bar (facing North). But, it does have a nice water view and you will get the reflective effect of the sun upon the water; that's why we went back. The drinks were good too, reasonably priced and the servers were friendly!

We checked out Al's on a Sunday evening. It was taco night and we got a great deal on tacos - nothing fancy (just as it should be!). The rum punches were great - but they pack a punch! We arrived for sunset, but too cloudy :-( We sat at the bar and had a great time talking with the bartenders and other patrons. Definitely check it out!

great bar, great drinks, awesome bartenders. The view from the patio is wonderful. Kareoke night was actually really fun.

This is a nice place to enjoy a liquid refreshment and watch the sun set after a beautiful day on the beaches. Friday night was open mic night -- good chance to mingle with the locals and the tourists.

This is a great lace to watch the sun go down! My wife loved the Painkillers so much we went back the next night

Stopped in here a couple times during our week in Vieques as the wife and I were staying in the Bravos de Boston area and this is one of the very few nightlife places in Isabel II.Never ate here but had the chance to sample their Pain Killer and Island Tea drinks a couple times. Honestly, I'm not sure how anyone could drink more than a couple of their Island Teas and still walk out of the bar...very strong and very good.As others have said, a local's (ex-pats) bar that also has tourists, but we found everyone to be friendly. They have karaoke at 9 o'clock on Saturdays but after a full day of travel...and a couple of their drinks in the late afternoon...we couldn't stay there that long!Good place to just relax, unwind.

This place has live music, provides food and drinks. There are many tables for the patrons. It is lively and is supposed to be great at sunsets.

We happened to be in Isabel II on a Tuesday, which is apparently the day many shops close. Luckily we wondered into (and stumbled out of) Al's. This is the classic Caribbean every-is-running-from-something kind of bar. Open air with great views of the bay and moored sailboats, very funny bartender (Rich) and many characters. The cooks apron looked like it might not have been cleaned since Hemingway sailed the islands, but the food was great anyway and the beer was very cold.Definitely worth the visit to get some local flavor.

great job on bar menu except no chicken wings on friday nites because its fish and chips nite..best bar prices on the island, great atmosphere, sunsets and a place to mingle and ask about what's going on in vieques

Much like the nearby SeaGate Hotel, this establishment really matches the vibe of the island. It's not luxe but it's not trying to be. It's just good food, strong drinks and a great view of the sea.The friendly bartenders poured strong and tasty pina coladas and rum punches for us the whole week we stayed in Vieques. The last night of our trip, we got chicken wings and they were amazing. Overall this place is an awesome value. I highly recommend it.

Had breakfast there the first day of the trip. Got the biscuits and gravy; amazing. Hashbrowns are highly recommended too. Walking distance from the ferry--seriously, getting off the ferry, hang a right and it's just across the little bridge on the right. Medalla is the local beer and it's like $3 for 2 of them here. Apparently their taco bar is only on Sundays, so I never got the opportunity to try it.

This is clearly a local's place. Most people knew each other by name. After sitting at a table for 5 minutes, the bartender said, "if you want something, you have to come up here and tell me..."Limited menu--this is really a bar. We had the onion bites appetizer and were hard pressed to find the onions--it was all deep-fried batter.Maybe you have to be there later to enjoy the "nightlife." So many better places on the island. Why is this listed as an "attraction," rather than a bar? Beats me.

Heard about this place from someone at our hotel. For a ridiculously cheap tab, we got the Friday night fish fry (awesome!) and had a bunch of beers while watching live music. The place is right by the ferry dock in Isabel 2. It's a beach shanty, essentially. Nothing fancy here folks. The bartenders were nice, and we met a few other couples there just hanging out and had a great time. The band was obviously an eclectic local group. They were... Trying hard. Hey whatever, if was one of those relaxed carefree nights. Definitely check this place out for a laid back good time! We didn't see the sunset there, but they have a deck over the water that apparently is An awesome sunset spot.
