First time in Portland and one of my friends recommend me to coming here to eat...They got the best jerk chickek, pork, breadfruit and festival in Portland!!! So good and prices are reasonable
Visiting Boston beach for the first time in over 40 years we were horrified to see what it is like today. What was once a lovely little beach with a few jerk selling stalls now has a much smaller beach, a few dilapidated shacks, some spaced out people and a commercial jerk selling area just up the road. Go somewhere else if you want a decent experience!
first of all the Boston Bay jerk is NOT the best jerk on the island. Who writes that has not been in many other places. We were six people and the husslers around us were twice as many. They tried to cheat wherever possible. Make sure they put your portion on the scale and make you see it. Also, pay them right away and not after you finished eating. They will come up with price and weight negociations and you'll have a big problem. BIG PROBLEM I said ! And just to mention: we live here for many years and have never ever had this kind of hassling, nowhere on the island !
Lovely beach. We spend a very enjoyable few hours here watching the surfers and swimmers. There are some locals selling trinkets and things, but they don't hassle if you're not interested. Nice little cafe and jerk centre. The day we went the beach was slightly spoiled by a lot of seaweed that had washed up but there was a team of local guys raking it up into piles to help keep their beach beautiful.
If you got to Boston Beach to surf you must find Mrs. Ivy and eat. The curried goat and fried chicken was fantastic.
My boyfriend and I spent a week staying near to Boston Beach. The beach gives a real Jamaican cultural vibe and is not too touristed. Definitely not the nicest beach for relaxing in the Port Antonio area but surfing is what you come here for. Both me and my boyfriend payed to have a lesson and both managed to stand a few times (make sure to haggle, they try to charge ridiculous prices). It's great to watch the locals surf, some of them are amazing and make it look a lot easier than it is!
we were at great huts resort ...we went to the beach alongside de side of the beach ..rocky ..not easy ..but swimming in that bay is really a treat !
liked to watch the surfers.. disliked the locals who meet you as you enter the beach & stay beside you..a little overwhelming for me, we only stayed a few minutes..the beach was full of seaweed, maybe because of the rough water but really no where you could sit & relax.
I could've watched the surfers all day. This was a great beach. Beautiful, and never over-crowded. The surfers were friendly, and will try to sell you lessons (and some other things), but are not pushy.
Beach was flooded with seaweed, so much so that it was piled up like a wall on the beach. Facilities were run down and gross.
Rented two surfboards and hit a good swell there. Not ideal for sunbathing, really a beach for surfing only. Locals rent boards but be sure to negotiate price before you hit the water.
Best place for seeing other surfers, also overall very pretty beach. Surf varies from day today, OK at least for beginners but some times also very big waves. No real nightlife in this area.
best jerk food on earth, served by a colorful cast of characters....so friendly...and some great surfing as well
Long, shallow, rocky beach and huge waves. A lovely, unspoilt and natural location. The local surf boys are funny and not too demanding.
It's chilled out, blue and lovely. We stayed at great huts. THis and the jere is the reason to stay here
