Nice beach although it was windy with high waves. Very pretty with great views .Lots of tree shaded spots. There were two food options , a decent beach bar, Banana Cabana, serving burgers and salads or the highly recommended Off the Grid BBQ which is at the entrance and involves a hike up from the beach. Transportation was 10 one way and 9 going back while lounges were 10 each. Beach toilet was kind of gross. Snorkeling was OK and there are lots of rocks entering the water. We chose this beach because there were a huge amount of cruise ships in port and wanted to avoid the Coki and Magens Bay beach crowds . We were successful . Not too crowded.
I am not kidding when I say nothing to write home about. That's why the condos on the beach are for sale at a cheap price. However the current condo owners will charge a lot to vacationers. If you are from Podunk snow land you will love it. No restaurant or grocery store. You will have to take a cab. Approx $35-$75 for a ten minute ride depending on how much the taxi driver wants to steal from you. You can take a jitney ride for $1, just walk to the top of the hill about 1/4 of a mile. No service after the dinner hour.
Chairs in shade available for about $10 along with same cost for shuttle from ship to this beach. I was impressed that the coral fans are still alive with the amount of people that visit this beach. Spoke to some expat locals that frequent this beach so it must be a good beach. We brought lunch from out ship but there are locals offering munchies there.
We went here as I had read it had good snorkeling, but we were rather disappointed. The snorkeling was rather mediocre. The beach is sort of small (short and thin) and it felt very crowded. We were getting an Atlantic City boardwalk kind of a vibe.
A beautiful beach with excellent snorkeling. Can be crowded on some days with cruise ship people but large enough to find a piece of sand all your own. Limited food available,
We stayed at the Sapphire Beach Resort in a Condo. Absolutely beautiful area. Nice beach with view of the beautiful Caribbean Sea.
I went to this beach on a Carnival cruise excursion. It was very scenic with other islands in view and I loved the big shade trees.so we didn't need to rent an umbrella. This was a rocky beach though and I recommend wearing water shoes.p to protect your feet when the waves push you into a rock. It was supposed to be good for snorkeling,bu we didn't see anything. We didn't go out very far and probably didn't go out in the best area. We learned later from the dive shop employee that the dark spots in front of the dive shop, were sea grass instead of rocks/coral and more likely to have turtles and rays. I liked the beach service and had a great Mahi sandwich.
We stayed in the condo's for 8 days. The beach was pristine, the water clear and no seaweed. This is not a party beach nor is it ever really crowded. This is a gem that got a bad wrap awhile back and now would be a great time to take advantage of a beautiful spot. Every night they clean the beach and pick up all of the chairs. It is spotless in the morning. They have a place to rent chairs and snorkel equipment. They also sell drinks and food. There is also a tent set up that serves drinks and food all day long. There is also a bathroom on the beach. The snorkeling was nice but the water was choppy so we never got out to the better spots. Even close to shore we saw fish and some coral. The condo's are all owned by different groups. We rented through Home Away or VRBO. Do your homework and you will be rewarded with a gem. A or B building's are closest to the swimming area. We stayed in B and it was a perfect location. 1st floor is nice to come and go but the views on the 2nd floor balcony were spectacular. The pool area was very nice but who want's a pool when you have the most beautiful beach in front of you. Again this is not a party beach, very quiet at night. You can take a taxi into Red Hook 2 miles away and they have food shopping and very nice restaurants. You would think this would have mostly older people but really the ages were all over the board. They have laundry services and a marina right out your back door. A great food truck is at the top of the hill, which is one of the prettiest sights you will see in St. Thomas. If you are coming for a day of leisure the chair rental is $9.00 for the day. There are some trips set up by cruise ships but still the beach was never overcrowded. We had one couple who were on a cruise ship and have cruised 22 times ask so many questions about staying here. I think by the end they were convinced this was the place for them, they were in love with everything they saw. Renting through Home Away is safe, just do alot of research and read the reviews. Check with the owner if you are going to be eating there, make sure they have all of the pots and pans you might need. We had a grill which made it nice not to have to heat up the condo. Eating on the patio with those views will spoil you for going out. You will not find any place to eat with a nicer view than here at Sapphire Beach.
We spent some great time at this beach. We swam, parasailed, rented jet ski's. Really a fun time and the people were nice and very friendly to deal with. We also ate and were waited on with drinks. Had a great time!!!! Very beautiful water, the beach could have been a little better maintained if there is anything negative. Would go back now!!!!
...Normally I take a nice nap while relaxing and sunbathing at a beach. But it was a little different at Sapphire beach.... the beach was so breathtaking I wasn't able to close my eyes because I didn't want to miss one beautiful moment. MUST SEE!!!!
This beach is not huge, but it is clean with very little seaweed and is walking distance from the marina. There's some coral out a ways, I think mostly dead, but some interesting fish can be seen. The beach is sometimes a bit crowded but usually not too bad. There are trees where shade is available if needed.
If you don't want to drive to Megan's this is on ok beach. There is a long area of white sand beach in front of the hotel and room and you can rent chairs. However the bottom is very rocky a good part of the beach so not good for swimming or walking/playing in the water except for about 40 feet stretch in front of the pavilion. Also the water gets deep/drops off very quickly about 10-15 feet out so not so good for non-swimmers. There is some decent snorkeling around the rocks and jetty near the pool.
The view from Sapphire Beach is spectacular. The waters are beautiful and warmer than some of the northside beaches and there is food/concessions available without them taking over the beach like at some of the others. It has gotten sort of a bad reputation, which from what we were told had to do with the management of one of the properties on or near the beach filing bankruptcy and many of them being empty. I didn't see evidence of this with the properties actually on the beach. There were overgrown parts coming down the hill, however, so that may have been where that came into play. The snorkeling is fair if you go out far enough, but it won't come to you like at Coki. Go to the far left side of the beach if you want a better chance of seeing something. Bring your own chairs. It's $10 to rent them if you aren't a resident. When we went the first time, the waves were fairly high due to an incoming rain storm, so if you have small children, check the weather for the next few hours.
We chose this beach because my sister wanted to go snorkeling. I don't think it was the best choice. We were only here on day on a cruise ship so we only could pick one and we had quite a large party. After we got off the ship there were a lot of drivers around all quoting the same ridiculous price for a roundtrip but for us it would have been really expensive for 11 people at it was over a hundred dollars each way for the group, so we walked away and we started walking towards the town when a driver stopped us and offered us a discount. Once we got to the beach, we were pretty unimpressed. I've been to a lot of beaches and my sister lives in Florida so we weren't swept away. We did not rent chairs but since we were one of the first to arrived just found a spot under a tree since there was some shaded areas. The beach was not prestine when we arrived, since it was in early December, they might have been cleaning up the area, we saw garbage bags all around and the water wasn't that clear see through blue green we wanted. It was dark in color, cold and kind of rough. I think the garbage bags were for debris, they were doing some work on the area it appeared. You could rent snorkel gear, kayaks and other water equipment for a price. There was food and vendors here as well as public bathroom we could all use. We didn't eat here. I did not snorkel, but my sister said she did not see a whole lot of sealife. All and all there wasn't our favorite spot. Some of our party did not get in the water. We stayed for a few hours and then left. It wasn't a bad beach, it was still pretty. We were just looking for something a little bit more like paradise. It really just looked like a city beach. I probably won't go to this beach again when I return but try something else. I think we all wished we had made a different choice.
This beach has perfect views, calm and torquise waters. There are bathroom facilities. Food and drinks are available for purchase. Renting a chaise lounge for the day costs $9.00. A taxi to and from the port costs $10.00 per person each way. Taxi's at the beach which is part of the Sapphire Beach Resort are plentiful.
