It is great for 8 and under....not many animals are out to see. They just all lay there an do nothing...it's kind of boring...
I stayed in Niagara fro two nights in September and we decided to check out Safari Niagara. My husband and I have been to Niagara about 8 times in the past 10 years, so we have been to pretty much every attraction in the area, except this one. We got a great deal through Groupon, so it was a pretty inexpensive afternoon. This place is more like a zoo, than a safari, but we still had a great time. There is a lot of things for kids to do, so it would be a great place to bring them. Lots of interaction with the animals and playgrounds. You were able to feed a giraffe, which looked very cool. There is also a budgie exhibit, where you can buy food on sticks to feed the budgies. It was really fun, as long as you're not worried about getting pooped on! The budgie exhibit is an enclosure and they fly around freely within it. We spent about 2 1/2 hours walking around the safari. They had a lot of exhibits and some very cool animals. You could easily spend a whole day here as there is lots of things to do for kids.
Nice clean zoo with lots of attractions and things for the kids. The concert venue is also a great setup and concerts are top notch.
From the front it doesn't look like much. The park is huge. There are opportunities to feed some of the animals. My favourite are the giraffes! The park also has a water park, playground and a big a very big sand box with trucks and things to play with.
We love this zoo and it is my granddaughter's favorite place to go. You can clearly see the animals and the space between each exhibit is woodsy and natural. There is a wonderful variety of animals to see also. My one complaint is not enough signage regarding the animal. There is also a splash park which was a great relief after walking around. And a very nice playground. We really enjoy this zoo and will definitely go back again and again!
The zoo animals were terribly sad, which made us sad. By the time we got through, we were going to leave but decided to try out the water park. The water park was so much fun!!! :D They had cheesy "carnival" sit down rides that weren't necessary, but had a really cool rope climbing attraction for kids. If they just did an even larger water park with added water slides, added shade canopies to the large sand box, got rid of the steel slides (too hot to even sit on), and did more of a petting zoo with pony rides...I would bring my kids EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND!
My wife and I were on vacation in Niagara, and we love wildlife so we decided to check this place out. It is not as big as some other zoos, so it was easier to walk around the place. They do supply transportation around the place, and believe me it was used more than once. You can get up close to many of the animals to feed them, My wife and I really loved feeding the giraffes, deer and monkeys. What we did not not like was that some sites were closed in September, so we could not see all of the place. Summer does not end in August, so open the place a little longer, people are still on vacations.
Went with another close family with children ranging from age 5 to 9. All of us had a great time and the weather was perfect. We went earlier in the day and since summer is officially over, the water park and other activities were closed. Not a big deal, as it helped with keeping crowds away. Riding the trams around was fun and seeing the animals was great. Fed the giraffes and the kids enjoyed that the most. This time of the year there were a lot of bees buzzing around open garbage bins especially around tram stops and any food areas. Be careful...without provocation whatsover our 8 year old got stung on his palm. Thankfully, there was no allergic reaction but it sure scared the rest of the kids in the group and dampened the mood. We found out towards the end from another mother that her 2 yr old toddler was also stung on his lip too.Suggestion to the zoo folks: Get new, enclosed trash bins.Tip: At this time of the year the store had just about all the stuffed animals at 50% off. Great buys!
This is a family owned operation. The family has ownd this since their father just had a petting zoo with local farm animals. Since the father passed on, the family made his dreams come alive. Now it is huge with lots of animals from a lot of different countries, they are lovingly cared for. There are a lot of things for families to do, enjoy a whole day there, take a picnic lunch. There is not much food to be had, only one place inside, and a barbeque outside. They have live music concerts, and video concerts for the adults on weekednds in the summer. They serve alcohol at these events. A lot of people come here every year. They have waterslides now, and more activities for kids. Best time to go, is in summer. This is a great place for all the family, or nights with the music for adults. I do go there every year, along with a lot of my friends. This is in a small town atmosphere, in the country. Enjoy yourself, get out of the city.
We went with friends, no kids. Got a wagjag deal so weren't too worried if it ended up being lame. We had a good time. Learned things we hadn't known before. It was a cool day (September, and when the wind blew it was downright cold)... but some of the animals were still lumbering about. I added the "but" because we all felt that some of the animals, especially some of the birds, could use bigger cages. The newer cages seemed really good, but the raven and the hawks really seemed like they wanted to fly every time the wind blew and they just didn't have the room. The tram driver was great and it was nice to have that option at the end of the day when we were tired and didn't want to walk more to just pass by some of the animals and get a glimpse without having to walk.I think it's a great place to take kids and it's not as big as the Toronto Zoo so you can do the whole experience with little ones without being exhausted by the end.
I haven't been here in 12 years and now I remember. I took my grandson on Sept.12th and found a costly entrance fee; the same lethargic animals and some without mates with them especially the big cats! Of all the animals, only the giraffes came to the fence or made a move and only because food was forth coming. The big cats were so lethargic that one would think they were sedated. Disappointed that I fell int the trap of going back and wasting my time and money. We would have had more fun if we had gone for a hike on the Bruce Trail!!
We love this place, however make sure you go in season before labour day as most things are not there. We were there x2 and most recently last weekend had a great time. The only other bad thing was no restaurants were open.there was a guy cooking hotdogs but they were way over cooked and hard. The washrooms were clean and even the one port a pottie we encountered was impeccable. It closes too early 4:00. The giraffes were the highlight of our day as were the hippos. All the feed machines were full. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the playground. We will definitely go back but in season.
We liked the variety of different animals. There is an interactive exhibit with the giraffes that is quite exciting. There is hardly any feed machines that either work (steal your toonies) or that actually have feed in them. Some of the featured exhibits on the website are not completed and empty such as the tigers. The tram ride was ok. The animals are far away and photo opportunities are rare. The paddle boats were fun with the girls. My girls are to old for the slash pad, but they did get their feet wet. The snack bar is very expensive, and their are only 2 people working it for the entire park. The washroom facilities are port-a-potties. Overall some of the exhibits such as the monkeys and giraffes are quite entertaining but the rest disappointing. I would not recommend until all the exhibits are completed as I expected from their website.
We purchased a deal online and went to the safari Niagara with our 2 year old. It was a nice place. Make sure you allocate yourself at least 2-3 hours. They have a free splash pad, park, fishing and other attractions for children. I found that most of the animals weren't active (except for the giraffe). They just kind of laid there or were fast asleep. I liked that the safari lets you rent a wagon, so it was easy to just pull our son around. If you do rent the wagon, don't bother paying for the tram as it is a waste of money. It was definitely worth it for the deal we got.
Even though we only had two hours to run through the zoo, we thoroughly enjoyed it. There is a good variety of animals and they look healthy and well taken care of. They each have their own little homes and many of them were taking advantage because of the heat, but we didn't mind too much. We respect they need their privacy too. The only downfall was the snack wagon which is on the last half of the walk closes an hour before the zoo does and we were hot and thirsty. We were forced to have a soda which we didn't want to get from a vending machine....lucky for us we had change. We thoroughly enjoyed feeding the giraffes. Make sure you bring change...loonies for vending machines and feeding the animals. We loved the gift shop and found the prices reasonable. Much better than going all the way to Toronto and walking for five to six hrs. We were not exhausted when we left :)
