We've attended numerous live shows there in the last several years. Interesting old photo's, posters etc from the 1930's. Many of the live musical shows have been excellent. However, some of the newer groups music is too loud & the sound engineers should realize this is a smaller venue. Good sight-lines from the entire theatre.
For a small town theatre we find they do a marvellous job at the selection of plays and other entertainment they provide. The calibar of acting they have is good. All seats have good visual.
Great local theatre with wonderful acoustics. The locally produced plays are very professional and many international acts perform here.
We enjoyed the music and little petite orderves served the evening of.. The skits on the stage was very entertaining also..But the seats were crowded, as there was many people that arrived to celebrate their New Year.. I also found the sloping floors to be a bit of a hindrance in the dark...
I've been to several shows at the Imperial and the venue is very good. The shows I've been to (Rick Mercer, Vinyl Cafe, Led Zep Tribute, Colm Wilkinson; others) were all very enjoyable - friendly atmosphere, good sound and visibility, comfortable seating and well attended. The only shortfall I have experienced was in balcony seating at the back, where I got too warm to be comfortable by the end of the show, but that's a common condition in that area of any theatre. Cheers!
We visited the Imperial Theatre to see Ballet Jorgen dance Romeo & Juliet to music by Shostakovich. The theatre is a little tired but is clean, has decent seats and good sight lines. The sound system definitely needs some updating. There is adequate parking in the vicinity. The box office gives good, efficient service. Ballet Jorgen is always a real treat. They are a smallish, youngish company that travels light. Their sets are very abstract and inventive. They have to be as the company travels extensively. The dancers work very hard and definitely make the ballet meaningful to you. There is lots of humour included. This is not your grandparents type of ballet. On this occasion, Bengt Jorgen himself danced in the performance. At the end, 2 of the dancers go to the lobby to answer questions, sign autographs, etc. This was a very enjoyable evening. we hope that Ballet Jorgen returns to Sarnia.
For a small home town theatre. fabulous productions for a real price. The actors put their heart and soul in each production to give the public what they want. Not sure why you have to travel when it is in your own back yard. Support your own
Visited the theatre to see the Michael Jackson Experience. Capacity crowd. Good seating, good visibility even with tall people sitting in front. The sound system and mixing definitely inferior. Very difficult to understand what speaker/singers were saying/singing. Too loud and speakers sounded cracked. Score 2 out of 10 for that. Was disappointed in the Michael Jackson performance, especially the "Thriller" song....not very professional. He did invite dancers on stage at times, however, the last few songs, young kids (ages 3-7) came up on stage wings and stood and danced and talked. Where were the parents? Where was the staff to have them not there...one insurance claim and they might wake up! The 4 backup dancers were excellent!!!
I recently had the opportunity to see the Sound of Music on the Mothers Day weekend with our family. Great show, loved every single minute of the show. Could have sat there for at least another hour. We were fortunate to have front row seats. We found the chairs spacious and we were comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful if you need anything. I know the Imperial Theatre is a bit worn but I love this little theatre and I have enjoyed all the plays that I have attended. Truly if you are wanting an extravagant experience then you will need to double or triple what you just paid for tickets and drive 2 or 3 hours to Toronto. Sarnia is very fortunate to have this little theatre. I randomly monitor to their website and buy tickets when I see something I am interested in. When I visit my family it gives us something to go and see as a family.
Great show, wonderful acting. Beautifully paced and tight. never a moment wondering if the show was nearly over. The venu has improved a lot over the years. I first went there as a child to watch movies, many years ago now, it became the Imperial Theatre and a place for live music and theatre. Great place to go. Checkout it their website to see of there are any productions being presented when you are planning to being n the area.
We saw Colm Wikinson here (fantastic). We picked up our tickets that morning. Ron and his staff were very gracious to us. They were excited we'd come all the way from Colorado to see the show. They took time to show us around and give us some history of the theatre. Also to share their vision of the future. We saw Ron again just before the performance, at intermission, and after the show. He was genuinely interested in what we thought.I only wish our local theatre was as well run, intimate, and professional as the Imperial. If you're in Sarnia, we suggest you take in a show at the Imperial.
It can't be easy making ends meet at a place like the Imperial in a small town like Sarnia, and it clearly is a little care-worn, but they do work hard to keep putting on an interesting range of events & shows around the year. The layout of the foyer / bar etc areas is a little quirky, but that and the very friendly volunteers is perhaps part of its overall charm.
Located in the heart of downtown Sarnia, The Imperial Theatre provides a great stage for local and international entertainers of all stripes. I've enjoyed scores of different acts over the years, and never feel anything less than thoroughly entertained.
Excellent entertainment with first rate productions. My wife and I have attended multiple productions over the years and always come away grateful that Sarnia has this theatre gem. This is local community theatre at it's very best.
The Imperial Theatre is a very nice place to see any event. It has the character of the old classic theatre but in really good shape. I use to see movies here in the 70s and now I see anything from a comedy show to a concert to a play.
