Upon walking in the Hernder wine tasting room you are greeted by friendliest people. If you are lucky enough to be in when "Bev" is in you will have an experience like non other. My wife and I have toured through the Niagara region wineries for years and our favourite spot is Hernder. They have a lovely hall facility for weddings or events like they're craft weekends. Samples of their wines, Ice wines, and fruit wines are on a menu to look over. I personally like the Rhubarb wine. You will have to stop in and see for yourself.
stop here during your wine tour, good thing will happen ;) warm people, accomodating staff, excellente icewine.
I loved the winery, the barn was amazing. The lady who gave us our wine samples was very nice and knowledgeable and gave us a tour of the barn. The wine and prices were great. Definitely will order Hernder wines in the future and I recommend visiting the winery.
Once again really enjoyed the craft show hosted at Hernders. Best vendors and beautiful location. Always stop by the wine tasting bar before leaving and stock up on our favs. Hernders has some nice wines at great prices- you can't go wrong!
Just about 10 min south of St Catharines. Worth the drive. Take 5th Street ( south direction ) away from St.Catharines then turn right on 8th ave. before Pelham Rd. Their Baco Noir 2012 is perhaps the best value in Ontario for $9.95 per bottle.Recently attended a wedding reception/banquet at Hernder. Service & food were top-notch.
Part of our Niagara Wine tour, I did find this winery a little out of the way. Driving onto the grounds you pass through a quaint covered bridge. The grounds are lovely and the winery offers several rooms suitable for weddings or any other functions. The tasting room is a bit cozy, but the selection of VQA wines they offer is great. They do have a charge for the sampling, but that's waived with the purchase of any wine. A lovely out of the way spot.
We visited Hernder during a conference in St. Catharines. It is a lovely spot, very beautiful and enjoyable to tour. The wines are lovely. The rhubarb wine is tart and fresh but still sweet, their Gewürztraminer VQA was very nice, and my favourite was the Green Tea Gewürztraminer! It's very flavourful yet subtle at the same time. As someone who isn't partial to sweet wines, I was quite surprised that I enjoyed these! The charge for a tasting is a $1 donation, which I understand goes to a charity the family has chosen. I have also taken a look at their website since returning home, and the website is just great! So informative, and you can order their wines as well. Will certainly recommend this spot to anyone visiting the Niagara region.
Hernder Estates gives you the impression of being on the East Coast from the moment you arrive in their laneway. They have a gorgeous covered bridge that you first need to cross (stop and take some photos!). Their staff is so friendly! They make fabulous wine, and trust me on this one...whether you're a red/wine/rose wine drinker...try their rhubarb wine! Delicious!
The Niagara Region is over-flowing with wineries these days, and Hernder Estates stands out as one of the nicer tours. The estates are beautiful; the pond and the covered bridge over the water are nice features, and the cellar where wine tastings take place is charming. There are two indoor venues for wedding receptions, and I’ve attended an outdoor wedding ceremony on the grounds…lovely! The wine tastings are great! Samples are reasonable at $1 per sample. The staff is knowledgeable, and can be quite generous with samples at the end of a day! My favorite wine is the Cabernet Franc, with the Baco Noir coming a close second.
The Short and Sweet - Great Prices, Great Service, Beautiful Vineyard, MUST VISIT!The Long and Sweet - My wife and I, along with another couple, finished our 2nd annual wine tour of the Niagara Region. Last year was Niagara-on-the-Lake. This year, Jordan and Beamsville were our destinations. The first day we hit several wineries and found the wine more expensive and the atmosphere a little more stuffy than last year. The day we were leaving we decided to hit a few more wineries before heading home. Luckily we found Hernder Estate. The service was exceptional. Bev was relaxed and fun as she joked with us while we sampled the various wines (try the Cranberry Wine if you're looking for something different). The prices are better than any winery we visited not just this year, but last year as well. To sum up - we've visited more wineries than I can count and Hernder Estate is one of only two that we've earmarked as Must Visit Again.
My husband and I are avid wine drinkers and given we live in one of the most prestigious wine areas in Ontario, The Niagara Peninsula is host to hundreds of local wineries. Hernder's is one of favorite ones, the wine is amazing, the prices are right and the hospitality is the best.
Of all the wineries in the Ontario region this one is my favorite. from the minute you drive in the scenery is great, the service is great and the wine is even better. Purchased several bottles to stock up at home until I can get back. Will probably have to order online. Always worth the visit.
Had the pleasure of attending Hernder Estate Wines on a recent bus tour. The tour guide was knowledgeable and very funny. The staff was attentive and we very helpful with our wine choices. The rhubarb wine is amazing! The setting s absolutely gorgeous and it is obvious why this is a popular wedding venue. Very beautiful an serene. Would have loved to wander the grounds with a glass of wine, but the bus tour beckoned for us to go to the next stop...oh well, perhaps on a private trip to the winery I can!
After having such an enjoyable experience at this winery last September, we decided to visit it again on the Family Day holiday. This time we were the only ones there, and at first thought it was closed even though the website said it would be open. Once entering the tasting room, we found the staff disinterested. No effort was put into information or conversation. We ended up buying one bottle of wine, but afterwards regretted it. We love going to smaller estate wineries, as we find the experience so much more personal and informative, however, we will continue to investigate the many other wineries in the region before going back to this one.
We attended a wedding at Hernder Estate Wines in Dec 2012. The venue is absolutely beautiful and was a perfect location for the wedding. The staff were friendly and attentive from the moment we arrived until 1:30am when we left. The wedding had about 160 people. We were upstairs in the restored Victorian barn and the room was breathtaking! Dinner was delicious and the wine was such a treat (especially the Riesling Reserve). I would highly recommend Hernder Estate Wines to anyone planning a special event.
