We've seen two Celtic Colours shows here and enjoyed them both. The venue is comfortable and well-appointed, and the acoustics are quite good. Sightlines are terrific especially if you sit close. There's a fair bit of parking, too. We always sit close to the stage and can basically reach out and touch the performers. Really a great middle ground between an intimate club and a small theatre.

Been to 6 shows........not one was disappointing.Beautiful theatre, friendly staff, great performances & what a nice freebie.......tea & oatcakes at "halftime".

What a delightful experience to enjoy a concert with 3 talented musicians in this theatre! The admission price was extremely reasonable. Louisbourg is indeed fortunate to have such a facility for both the town and the many tourists to enjoy performances at this venue. And at intermission there is tea and oatcakes for everyone to enjoy. Amazing!

On a recent Saturday my wife and I decided to stay in Louisbourg after a satisfying dinner and the recommendation of our server at Grubstake to check out the show at the Louisbourg Playhouse, Cape Breton's Lyrics and Laughter. The show was just over two hours in length with a 15 minute or so intermission in between for tea and oat cakes. The group entertained with a mix of song, dance, and corny humour. The four regular members of the group had a talented fiddle player, Melissa Crowley, joining them that night and she did not disappoint, going toe to toe with group regular Colin Grant in number after number. The show featured a good mix of original numbers and covers of others work. Overall it was a very entertaining evening and well worth the $23 per person admission.

The playhouse was a wonderful maritime experience! Buddy MacDonald and Rachel Davis performed. The oatcakes served during the break were incredible. The small gift shop was decently priced. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer to take in other performances.

$20 a person bought tickets to an enjoyalbe show featuring some corny jokes, a bit of dance and song by a talented four member cast.

An incredible show featuring Cape Bretton music with skits and jokes thrown in for good measure. Complementary tea and cakes top off this beautifully cozy and informal playhouse.

We saw "Getting Dark Again . . . Again." It's a combination of musical and ceilidh. The skits were clever, and the music was great. I even bought a CD of Jennifer Roland's fiddle playing though I was impressed by the pianist/comedian, Jason Kempt, and guitar players as well.

My friends and I had tickets to see a group, but unfortunately, the lead fiddler took ill and thus Shawn MacDonald (name sp?) was a quick substitution. He was no "second fiddle" as we enjoyed a two hour musical experience complete with history of traditional Cape music and took us to Ireland, Scotland and other places in Canada. He played a variety of incredible aires, marches, jigs and reels, and the playhouse hosted us for tea and oatcakes at intermission. We had a wonderful experience in a great venue with awesome acoustics. Of note, the playhouse had tried to contact us to advise of the change in performers and offered to refund, exchange or keep tickets, but glad we didn't get the call and decide not to attend tonight's concert. The staff have great customer service. Take advantage of this great venue!

The show was excellent. I cannot say enough about these four entertainers; they had amazing energy and talent. Even though Jennifer was a standout among the others, they all added their fair share to the evening's show. Don't miss this group; they are excellent.

Saw Dwayne Cote fiddle concert while in Louisbourg. Music was first-rate - rather surprising that so few people attended. We had a little confusion with our tickets, which we had reserved in advance, but they could not find on their computer system. It hardly mattered, in that there were many empty seats. The quality of the music was outstanding - the artist was accompanied by a legendary pianist, Dougie MacPhee, and their interpretations of traditional and contemporary Celtic music, and the occasional classical piece, were outstanding. The theater hosts concerts and plays all summer, and since the fortress closes at five, this is a delightful way to spend the evening.

Terry Kelly is a Cape Breton singer and gave us a fun evening. The Playhouse is a really nice venue - not too big, so very intimate.

What a treat to find that Louisbourg has live theatre throughout the summer. Tickets are reasonably priced. We attended a musical presentation by Jonathan McInnis, an excellent vocalist and musician whose repertoire included songs by Elton John, Billy Joel and others as well as some of his own compositions. A nice mix, especially in the first half. Our only complaint was with the volume - way too loud for such a small space. At intermission complimentary tea and Nova Scotia Oatcakes were served on the mezzanine level - a very nice touch.

I am a big fan of small venues, and this certainly fits the bill. It also has a very fun and interesting history--be sure to find out how and why it was built! If you're in the area, and there is an act you think might be fun, definitely check them out. Going the only night we were in town, we saw a local fiddler who is actually gaining fame and she was terrific. Had a chance to meet her during the intermission and bought her CD off her, which she agreed to sign. Such is the beauty of a small venue!

We booked our tickets for the show without knowing the entertainer. We were pleasantly surprised by Scott Phillips. He has a nice, soft, relaxing voice. We even bought his CD. The place is very intimate.
