A superb display of the culture and history. The little girl who took us on the tour was very engaging, warm and humorous. She taught us alot! The big dissapointment was the state of some of the exhibits. Some did not work and several in the natural history side had no labels. For example, a case full of birds only had a few tags. A half day on a computer would fix that surely??? Also, many of the cases throughout were very dusty inside which detracted from their meaning. The staff should be proud of this fantastic collection and therefore put their best foot forward and do not let become grubby.

With a group of 15 from Ottawa, we arranged for guided tours of the Haida Gwaii Museum in mid-July. A good friend, Nika Collison, gave us an in-depth tour of the exhibition Gina Suuda Tl'l Xasii (Came To Tell Something). We then had tours encompassing weaving, the poles erected outside the Heritage Centre, and the canoe shed where the Loo Taas and Loo Plex are housed. The youth leading these tours were passionate about their culture and history and spoke extemporaneously throughout the tours. We then had a delightful pre-arranged lunch at the Kaay Bistro with Chef Eddie Szasz. Afterwards, we were treated to an interpretive session with Elsie Burton and an outstanding youth member of the community, replete with history, personal stories and song that lifted us to such higher levels. What a treat, not to be missed on your trip to Haida Gwaii.

Love it. Lots of good information about the history and life of the Haida. Also the lay out of the museum is impressive.

The thousands of artifacts were well displayed. We were lucky enough to have a Haida House Ambassador as our guide. Albert, who has his weaving exhibited in the Museum, brought our visit to life.

The young Haida woman who gave the tour of the totem poles, canoes and village was very knowledgeable about her culture. She engaged and enlightened the visitors bringing us a better understanding of the past and present lives of Haida people.

Beautiful Museum with a large collection of Haida art, carvings and artifacts. Guided tour gives a wonderful description of the many poles and long houses, interesting details about the carved boats. Definitely worth the visit.

A traveller to Haida Gwaii would be remiss in not visiting this outstanding cultural centre. We took the totem pole tour and it was extremely informative. Understand we should have stayed for the weaving demonstrations. The treasures in the museum are so artfully arranged, giving the visitor a real feel for the island. Would have liked to return but time was pressing.

This Museum is a wonderful example of Haida pride. The staff were more than willing to help explain things, the artifacts and art on display were stunning, and the building itself is magnificent. Don't miss it.

A modern class A facility, easily accessible within which are compelling exhibits and narratives of the Haida culture. Located within the Haida Heritage Centre that also has a great bistro, and Gift Shop of locally made and designed items, one could easily spend half a day there.
