Not worth stopping unless you are fascinated by mining--which I'm not. Shabby looking building packed with old mining equipment and photos. We tried to look at the movie that they show on an old TV in a cluttered back office--turned out to be a slideshow with no narration. I'm not even a little kid, but I was ready to whine, 'this is so boring, I want to go home'.

We happened upon the gold mining town of Hedley as an extra few days to our vacation before heading home. We were surprised at how much we could do and wish we had left ourselves more time in the town itself before heading off for the mining tour. The museum had a photographic history which left us feeling as if we had been looking through a beloved relatives photos rather than those of strangers. We had coffee in the tearoom and heard stories of the landslide and boulders that had killed two residents in the 1930s and then read the newspaper articles of the time. This is obviously a well loved museum and the volunteers were knowledgeable and welcoming. Well worth a visit. Only wish we had time to do same gold panning.

Enjoyed it and worth a stop if passing by this town famous during Gold Rush. Very informative and reasonable good displays. The antique and mineral stone shop across has some great local art stuff on sale.

I have long wanted to visit Hedley and its museum and I finally made it at the beginning of May 2013. It was opening day for the summer season and the volunteer was the president of the museum/history society. What luck!Thom gave me a fascinating tour. The building looks a bit ramshackle but it hides a well-kept, if small, museum and a photo archive that is superb. Hedley's claim to fame is two mines, one a copper mine and the other, gold. They are both located high above the townsite amid towering mountains. They are Hedley's story, which dates back to the early 1900s. The last mine closed in 1997.The museum has artifacts and stories of the mines and miners, as well as the town. It also has a good selection of books on BC history, some I'd not seen before, and a little tea room.Sadly the mine tours were not operating this early in the season, but are over 4 hours long and considered a must-experience. So is the charming, small town and its famous resto, The Hitching Post. Here we had a good lunch and a choice of pale ales.If you're interested in BC history, this museum is a gem to visit.
