We visited Baillie on a hot summers day and were totally blown away by the friendliness of the people. We enjoyed the property, its quirky and interestng. The garden is lovely and we spent a peaceful relaxing hour picnicing in the sunshine. We were continuously offered free refreshments, and everyone was so welcoming. This will be a regular stop for us :)
Well worth visiting. Ice cream was only a dollar. Coffee and Tea were free. We had an excellent tour guide that explained the history of the Baillie Property. There were lots of donated items that were for sale to help support the running of the Baillie Property.
Everyone loves the Baillie House. Why? Because it is beautiful, quirky, has history and the people. The people that volunteer there are so welcoming and always are offering some type of amazing refreshment. I ALWAYS try to make a point to stop here while visiting Merritt.
I've heard that this place might be closing down...funding issue?? Anyways it is still open as of today, and it is a little piece of history worth making a stop in to.They sit on a little chunk of land with a few out buildings located in the heart of Merritt , BC .Check themout and have some of their home made ice tea.
A cool place to visit and explore. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and have nice treats for you when you arrive. The Baillie Property is a nice place to have a picnic, stroll around, or just chill. Lots of parking and shade.
There were lots of pamphlets, maps and books about the area. They had souvenirs and some history of the area. The woman who assisted us was very friendly and knowledgable.
We stopped in Merritt for a bite of "fast food" on a road trip from Revelstoke to Vancouver. In the restaurant window was a sign indicating a free picnic area across the road. What a delight to find it was the back yard of the Baillie Property, complete with shade trees, picnic benches and historical buildings. We were encouraged to help ourselves to free ice tea and lemonade out of the old farm house fridge and were then served cold slices of watermelon in the yard. There seemed to be no expectation of a financial contribution. On our way back to the car, after dropping a few dollars in the donation jar, we given the best homemade oatmeal cookies ever! A wonderful treat in the middle of a long drive.
