What a beautiful trip to the forest. Bring a lunch ,water and an imagination . Treasure the beautiful scenery including waterfalls.I was in awe over the size of these magnificent trees. It is a decent hike that's for sure

What an amazing treasure just a short drive away from Prince George! Well worth the time it takes to get there, and the time to do the full walk around the paths. The uniqueness of the forest being one of the only inland rain forests in the country makes it a most worthwhile destination. Take the time to do some reading about it before you go to truly appreciate the immense importance of this landmark!

We hiked up on Christmas Day and loved it. Didn't get much past Treebeard due to the disappearance of the trail and as the snow was pretty deep and we didn't want to run all over the dormant vegetation trying to find it.

The highlight for me is the wheelchair accessible trail. It allows people like my daughter to experience something that otherwise would not be possible. The other trails are also great. It is well worht the hour drive to get there from town.

A great place to stop, stretch and hike along Highway 16, especially on the long drive from Prince George to Jasper and Edmonton. A more common sight in southern and coastal BC, this is a unique old growth forest for the northern region, a wet microclimate untouched by forest fire or clear cutting. This is a good moderate hike for families [1 - 1.5 hours], but keep little ones near, as there is a waterfall canyon and there could be cougars or bears in the area. A long uphill stretch will lead you to giant 2,000 year old trees, lovely moss, and lichen. There's a large gravel parking lot, outhouses, and now a short wheelchair accessible portion, built by local volunteers.

This is a real labor of love by volunteers who created this attraction. You really have to pay attention to see the sign for it. The parking is on a gravel pad, but they have restrooms as well as a wheelchair accessible trail they built around the site. It is wonderful to see the work the volunteers have done to save a piece of these giant cedars. This is a must see.

A day trip to the ancient forest will not soon be forgotten. Visiting the trees, some of them thousands of years old transports you back to a simpler time and leaves you in awe and at the same time the trunks marked with x's remind you how near to destruction the whole forest is. Why not volunteer while you are there with the ancient forest action group? A small team of dedicated individuals spends there days building walking trails and paths that could always use an extra pair of hands. Then spend the rest of the afternoon underneath a waterfall and drink from the freshest pool of water you have ever tasted. Magic

Well designed maintained trails, even a handicap friendly section. It's like walking into some prehistoric time, towering cedars, ferns, a completely different ecosystem just there. If you're going past, and need to stretch your legs, take the time, but I wouldn't go there just to go there if you're not from PG.

This is a great place to stop and walk thru. The hike is an easy hike and can be completed in an hour easily.

If nature and big trees are your thing then The Ancient Forest is your place, at a little over an hour from Prince George this makes for a great part day trip back in time.Countless volunteers spending countless hours from various organizations including the Caledonia Ramblers Hiking club and UNBC outdoors clubs have spent years constructing a boardwalk through many sections of the forest, protecting the environment and giving more access opportunities to people. Wander along the 1000 plus year old cedars and marvel at the sheer size of them. A short walk will take you up to a small waterfall, a great place to take a little break. Recent news is that those who look after the trail are seeking UNESCO (United Nations World Heritage Site) status for the park, which is a great way to protect it well into the future. Take an hour and take a stroll through this magnificent ancient forest, it's humbling.

Out of the way treat but you need to keep sharp eye out for signs to it! Partly boarded walk and being improved all the time BUT still lot of clambering along and over logs and can be very muddy and slippery if rained beforehand as with us! I'm told lots of mozzies if weather better! Do go though, its nice walk in ancient forest with some fabulous specimens of very old trees.

Great trails . Most of the trail is wooden walkway so very easy to do. Make sure you use bug spray as you are in very dense forest

Having seen so many mountains, lakes and waterfalls during our trip we were pleasantly surprised by this lovely walk through the forest... Well worth a visit.

This pristine little Rainforest is a must-see. Takes less than an hour to walk the trail. Also has half a kilometre of boardwalk, in case you're handicapped. I was on crutches, from a recent knee surgery this summer & the boardwalk was perfect in accommodating my "hike" into the heart of the forest. It's stunning. The main trail is a little uneven & rocky since it's been left as natural as possible in order to not disturb the ecosystem too much. So wear shoes appropriate for that.

This place needs better signage! We have driven past many times on our way to and from Alberta. The first bit of the trail to the "Big Tree" loop was steep but our 4, 6 and 8 year olds managed, as did Mom, Dad and Grandma. The trails were spectacular - don't forget your camera! It's amazing to see scenery like this so far north, it feels like the south coast of BC. The wheelchair trail was fantastic, and a nice relaxing walk after the steeper trails. Look carefully at the small things, the cedar trees are amazing but so are the ferns, mushrooms and toadstools. We will be back next time through, it's a great spot between McBride and PG to stretch the legs after a long drive. We missed the trail to the falls due to time, next time that will be on our list. Go here, you will jot be disappointed!
