Great place to go for a walk by the ocean. I collect sea glass here when I am in town. Also has off leash dog park.

Who does not like a beach that goes on forever and ever. When the tide is out you can walk way out or skim board and then sit back and watch it come back in on the great beach

If you visit off season, this long stretch of beach with many names, Lacarno, Jericho, Soanish Banks, offers an easy walk along Burrard Inlet (not an ocean, that's on the other side of Vancouver Island) with stunning views of the Coastal Mountains and the city. You can stick to the path or walk along the waterside. Loads of free parking. And in the fall and winter, fewer people making it a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the downtown core. The lovely walk is dotted with cafes and restrooms, and benches or logs to sit and enjoy the view.In the summer, it can get crowded. The parks board puts up volleyball courts and these draw lots of people. It is difficult to access if you don't have a car, but the #4 bus will drop off close to it.

This is a world class place to visit...what a beautiful setting with a path to walk miles on along the ocean...with the beautiful mountains and city of Vancouver in the background.

When in Vancouver, one of the best beaches to visit is Spanish Banks. It's actually a long continuous sandy beach, running for miles along the ocean. There are a number of different namedbeaches, which are just different sections of Spanish Banks. Names such as Jericho, Locarno, Tower, Spanish Banks West, and Spanish Banks East, are ways to tell where on Spanish Banks you are. There is also Wreck Beach further down to the south, which is a clothing optional beach. The tide goes out about a 1/4 mile and the water is shallow and very warm in the summer. There are no dangerous currents or undertows, and there are lifeguards on duty from the May long weekend, until Labor Day. There are concessions and changerooms with lockers and showers along the beaches, and across the road is the UBC trails of Pacific Spirit Park. Sunsets are amazing, and the views of downtown, and the North Shore mountains, are incredible. It's a great place to watch the Festival of Light fireworks display at the end of July and into early August. In the winter, it's a great place to bring your dog, especially if they 're a water dog like our Lab. They won't want to leave. There is a fair amount of pay parking, that gets a little scarce on a hot summer weekend. It's also a great place to go running with the trails and beaches giving you miles of places to go. A must see in Vancouver. As a native Vancouverite, it's always been one of my favorite places since I was a kid.

This is Vancouver at its finest. The very long and large beach is just fabulous. You can walk, cycle or run along this stretch of lovely beach. The views are phenomenal. There are several little spots that serve beach food (hot dogs and the usual). On a nice summer day, this beach will be full of people picnicking, people watching, skim boarding, body surfing, biking, playing beach volleyball (lots of courts) and just hanging out. A great spot for many reasons.

Great beach, hard to access if you don´t have a car though. This beach is huge and it is usually not that crowded as the other ones in downtown and Kitsilano.

Since its a beach you tend to think of it as a warm weather destination if you are from out of town - but vancouver items know it's awesome all year long. Great place for a walk anytime of year in almost any weather . The view will take your breath away . And it soothes your soul just to look at the water and mountains. If you have a dog they will love it here as well.

One of my many favorite spots in Vancouver with miles of beaches, walkways, and unhindered views into the coastal mountains as well as of the great silhouette of the city of Vancouver. Great spot for a pick nick.

This is a great dog beach. Safe, clean and lots of space for dogs and their humans. We had a picnic lunch and our dog enjoyed his play time, especially at the beach.Charmaine HammondTeam Toby's PawsAcross Canada Tour

Miles of uninterrupted, barely-developed beach. Long shallow tidal area. Usual dangers of undertow or sudden holes opening up if you walk too far out. But a lovely, lovely place to tan, picnic or play volleyball at one of the many City-installed nets. Some lifeguarding during conventional hours.

We often meet friends at Spanish Banks for potluck dinners on Friday evenings in the summer. Can't think of a better way to connect with family and friends. Both kids and adults have a wonderful time enjoying the stunning vistas and the large grassy area to play and relax. So lucky to have this right in the centre of the city.

Regardless of the time of the year, this is a great place to go for a walk on the beach and in the park and to enjoy the vista -- great views of the ocean, north shore mountains, and Vancouver. Though the food choice is limited, there is a nice place to get coffee or tea.

vancouverluke

It's a giant beach with lots of park space to play bocce or volleyball. Set up your hibachi and hang out with your friends. Usually lots of parking but traffic can be a bit messy on the way out

As a citizen living on the far side of the lower mainland, I make it a point to steal a day off or two each year to plant my feet in the sand here and enjoy the view. With a picnic lunch and a friend, or a visit to the concession for very decent fish and chips and other options, it is a fine view whether your beach chair points north, south, east or west. Beautiful sunsets too. Ahh.
