Have been a few times and never disappointed. Had a friend from Germany during the Calgary stampede when we took a day and enjoyed Spruce Meadows. She is a show jumpers and dressage rider at home. So thought that Spruce meadows was the highlight of her trip. As she walked around the barns she asked questions and the staff spent the time to answer her. She was so excited she will deffinatly be back again!
No matter if I am attending a dog show, a jumping event or a Christmas Market - - Spruce Meadows is a world class venue. Excellent manicured grounds -- plenty of parking with shuttles -- clean facilities.
Great to see, very special place for all ages. Very well maintained grounds.lots of food options...and kids love it too
If you or your family is into horses this the place.Full disclosure I did work here in the 80s/90s. The tournaments are great if you want to watch completion at the highest level. If you want a more relaxed day go during the down times and just Wander around.
Such a beautifully maintained event site. The major equestrian shows are terrific for the whole family (sadly, the curse of Camelot is rain - but who has control over the weather?) SM offers plenty of interactive fun for all ages - educational kiosk (fire, police, aquiculture etc.) stables and arenas (love to meet the livestock), live entertainment, playground, open fields, face painting, pony rides, displays, vendor marketplace, food o' plenty, even horse drawn carts and golf carts bombing around to give the visitor a friendly ride - oh... and the Horse Jumping - class act! The venue is all open air, with lots of covered grandstand area (can also sit on the grass). There is a fair amount of walking, comfy shoes - but usually some form or transportation to assist those who get weary or worn out. The restrooms, although very generous and clean, are not in the best central location. The parking is in a field and a few lots are surrounding the area and can be full, but seem to have great people to assist with the ebb and flow of getting cars parked. There are also shuttles buses from a nearby city transit location (Somerset). The traffic can get busy during the major events (I live in a close by community, so know this!)The Southern's, the family who have shared their love of the equine world, have done a fantastic job making this "park" accessible to everyone. The site is also used for meetings, weddings, special events, school field trips and an enormous Christmas craft sale. Lots to enjoy, have fun - it's FREE (unless listed) and ATCO Gas usually provides a voucher.
I have been going to events at Spruce Meadows since 1976 and I have witnessed its evolution into a superb international horse facility. The grounds are clean and well landscaped, the exhibits are a good mix of everything, and the food services are good. The horse jumping competition is world class- it is exciting and entertaining. And so cheap - great family outing.
Great place for horse lovers to spend an afternoon. Lots to do and see here. Lovely facility that has something for all ages.
Amazing place to visit any time but the Christmas market brings the place to life. So much to see, local craft vendors etc
Spruce Meadows is a treed areas that tends to remain green much of the summer as it is closer to the mountains and gets more moisture than the semi-arid regions to the south, north and east. When the weather is hot and sunny there is ample tree shade. You will enjoy the major events.
world class facility. great food kiosks. minimal cost. attractions for all. has wonderful xmas market also
This event coincides with the Calgary Stampede. As well as seeing world class Jumpers you can enjoy some of the bands that attend the Stampede parade. Spruce Meadows is always great unless it is raining!
If you like horses and horse shows this is the place to be. I go for the exhibits and the food. The grounds are beautiful. Even though there is always a ton of people there it does not seem like it, as there is so much room.
This is a lovely place to see. The grounds are amazing, the buildings are well kept and the shows are very good.
A World Class facility with a relaxed atmosphere. Always a great day out for couples, friends or families. Have yet to be disappointed. Only criteria...you have to like well groomed gorgeous athletic horses.
This place is a gem. We are seniors who like to give our grandkids a day out somewhere special and SM has become a family tradition. Parking is free and entry minimal, if not free with coupons. A wonderful family oriented venue, lots of food, shopping, play areas, entertainment and of course, horse jumping events and getting up close and personal with the horses. A wonderful wonderful place. Highly recommend.
