What a treat to listen to the OSM in the Maison symphonique. I cannot think of a better place to enjoy Christmas music with a conductor of the calibre of Kent Nagano.
Saw a great performance of Bach and Mendelssohn with a pre concert organ recital. Musicians were great and the evening was very special.
One of my favourite shows at Place des Arts, the symphony is a great event! Would recommend to any classical art lover.
Ken is truly a Maestro of World Class Caliber. If you come to Montreal and the Orchestra plays as good as the one in Vienna, you realize that Ken is doing a great job!
The MSO (for the anglos) is a Montreal tradition. It's an excellent symphony and every year my Mom and I get season passes (to that and the Grande Ballet). Orchestras are not for everyone but if you're going to see one I suggest the MSO...
Saw the Christmas Show. Excellent performance. It was sold out but we were able to get two last-minute cancellations. Well worth it!
Love the acoustics in their concert hall. This is a world class orchestra, and the guest stars are wonderful.
What to say more then amazing place amazing acoustic and almost always great program. If I would start naming every wonderful moment I had there that would take looong very long time. I will just mention that I adore Mr Yannic Nezet and his orchestra, that I am very often there enjoying music and his passion. Latest concerto with Scandinavian composers called Scandinavian escape was just out of this planet. Yannick Nézet-Séguin ... choose excellent pieces such as Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite. Its performance was really something spectacular. Loved also Grøndahl Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra in F minor that made people shout ”bravo” numerous times. Sibelius’ Symphony no. 2 in D major, Op.43. was reserved for second part of the evening. My absolute highlight was performance of 4th part ( Air) from Holdberg;s suites by Grieg. Yannic;s team did it superb. Bravo
I personally didn't see any noticeable difference between Montrel's Orchestra and any other one considered to be more upscale.
So easy to reach the Maison Symphonique - by metro, or car.you can even secure your parking space at reduced rate ahead of time.Beautiful hall, excellent acoustic and as a bonus many restaurants to choose from before performances
Ken Naganois a great maestro, he makes you fill the music, You forget where you are especially with the new big organ
Small venue but a great place to see a show, all seats looked good and acoustics were wonderful. Only intermittent shows so check before you leave for Montreal, but if they have a concert it's worth taking in.
I've been back here for the OSM 2014 Asian Tour recently with the appearance of Kent Nagano as the conductor administrator and forgot how beautiful this place was! It's like I'm reliving my childhood from the few orchestral shows I've seen in the past. Everything is neat and sharp looking with modern architectural details from the wood and wide window walls. As for the show, Kent Nagano always knows how to amaze his audience and this time, there was no difference. Because of the Asian theme, all the melodies were magical and makes your feel like you are on a trip somewhere in Japan or China.
Don't miss an opportunity to hear this wonderful orchestra if you're in Montreal. The Maison symphonique is a fabulous hall that showcases the orchestra in spectacular fashion. If Kent Nagano is conducting, so much the better, but the players are wonderful in any event.
New concert hall is beautifully appointed with light wood which makes acoustics perfect. The orchestra is skilled and well prepared. It plays all genres with a special happiness. The audience surely enjoys the experience. Nagano is a dynamo and a pleasure to watch. I love the percussion section. A wonderful team. Make the symphony a part of any visit to Montreal. You will enjoy the music and the venue.
