We went in wintertime so of course there was fee as everything was closed. We were still able to walk around in and explore the grounds around the church and take some good photos as the view was simply amazing. Definitely worth the short drive up to the top of the hill to take in the view of the city from this high vantage point
This facility is amazing. The masses are beautiful and the gardens are out of this world. The church itself is absolutely gorgeous and makes you feel closer to god.
So many areas to explore! Each gorgeous and different from the rest. Wheelchairs available at the main entrance. We stayed in the Pope John XXIII Pavilion which was simple and nice.
Pay parking to enter the church. Donations boxes are all over the church as well as prayer boxes. Avoid going here during winter months due to the driving and walking up to the church.
Imposing structure atop the hill, stunning views, great layout & maps, very holy place and makes us want to learn more about St Andre! We stayed for mass (lovely cantor) and as a place of worship, I appreciate not paying an admission fee (except $5 to park) and gave freely at the multiple donation banks.
I love this place so much, is so peaceful and beautiful. Services in different languages and various organ concerts. Has a nice view of Montréal and the garden is a perfect place to get away from the crowds.Parking is free and near public transportation and a shuttle to the top.
After visiting my parents at the Mount Royal cemetery my husband and I decided to visit St Joseph oratory. We both had not been there in many years. I honestly felt a sense of relief and comfort. We walked around and felt like tourists. We lit candles and said a prayer. I really recommend that any tourist or even people living in Montreal must go visit. Its really a beautiful place to see.
A beautiful landmark pertaining to Montreal's history!!The inside of the Oratory has a 60-70s style to it. The oratory is still functional celebrating mass to the public.
Whether you are a pilgrim or adventurist, climb up to the top of the stairs that lead to the Oratory and let your eyes wonder far and wide. Inside or out, meditate, prey and relax. If you are lucky, someone will be practicing Bach on the great organ or the bells will chime. It is all about timing but always peaceful and energizing.
Very beautiful! Massive, massive, massive. There was a lot of places to see within the oratory, like several service rooms, brother Andre's chapel, a garden to walk through, etc. etc. I would definitely recommend it. I also appreciated that I did not have to pay to enter the Church, like you would have to at the Notre Dame Basilica. Beautiful view of the city!
This is a beautiful place that once you go to...you will want to return again. Take your time and see everything. There are so many things to appreciate. The organ and gates in the main chapel are phenomenal. Not to mention there is the heart of a saint you can gaze at. The room where all the canes are hanging on the walls and the tomb area will leave you breathless.
It's a very impressive monument. You can go for visit, listen to concerts or also to pray. The story of Brother Andre is interesting to know.
Regardless if you are religious or not...its such a nice place to see...there is a great view from the top floor..the décor, paintings and sculptures are amazing. There is a little souvenir boutique and fast food restaurant.
