Actually the 6th visit out of 8 on a day you would normally expect palates to become jaded but Franimgham's wines really get your attention and it's not due to any hype conveyed by the host staff who just let the wines do the talking. Their Gewurtztraminer is utterly divine but everything we were offered - free of charge - was top class. Notably - despite our visit being d i y - we did witness that small group tours stopped here more noticeably than any other visit - coincidence ? Maybe.
Three of us visited Framingham today and had a fabulous experience. We are three under 30 individuals working and travelling in the wine industry and found some of the other venues we visited to be quite pretentious and unapproachable but this was not the case at Framingham! Laurel hosted us in the tasting bar and was very hospitable and knowledgeable. Will be back again!
Framingham is where we fell in love with Marlborough Wines. The staff here is great and the win was just as great! We fell in love with Gewürztraminer. Highly recommend it!!!! We were really excited to visit Framingham & try their delicious riesling. Our host was fantastic, she was very knowledgeable & let us try some limited release wine that wasn't on the standard tasting list. We also got to have a look in the wine cellar, which was beautiful. Highly recommended.
This vineyard ticked all the boxes for me. Beautiful selection of riesling wines, both dry and sweet varietals. As other reviewers have mentioned the quality was consistently good across the full range. Staff were fun, knowledgable and provided healthy servings. A cellar downstairs, a different perspective compared to other vineyards. All in all a very pleasant experience.
We were recommended this winery so we thought we would give it a try even through we are not really Riesling drinkers. We were impressed with the free selection of wines on offer to taste & we appreciated the very knowledgeable staff regarding giving us information on each wine we tasted. The winery is smaller than most of the others in the area however they do have a great selection which include Reisling's Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir, Viognier and Montepulciano. Overall - We are big Sauvignon Blanc drinkers so nothing really grabbed us but we did enjoy the overall experience of the Cellar. Cellar Door Hours: 7 days a week 10.30am to 4.30pm
The choice of wines is extensive, the quality is consistently excellent. There's a cellar to see underneath the cedar door. The staff do everything they can to give the best possible experience they can going the extra mile for me - Thanks Laurel and Kay ;-) .. I'm so hooked on the Framinghams wine I joined the club! Don't miss this wine tasting experience when visiting the region!
We arrived at this beautiful cellar door feeling a bit excited as we were told it was the Riesling king of Marlborough. A lovely mature age lady immediately took us under her wing and began what was my favourite visit to any place in NZ. She was incredibly friendly, knowledgable, humorous and patient as we Riesling lovers asked if we could try other Rieslings that were not listed for tasting. Nothing was too much trouble and she allowed us to taste anything we wanted. We purchased upwards of a dozen bottles from this visit (0 bottles from Brancott) and would recommend it to anyone visiting Marlborough.
Better value for money than some others while retaining high quality. Taste here, but buy in the supermarket in Blenheim (or Picton) which offers the exact same bottles at significant discounts (which we found out later).
We rode our bikes to this cellar door in December. The hostess let us sample many of their wines and was very friendly. We also got to take a look at their basement Cellar area which was interesting. We liked and purchased one of the Rieslings and got a paper for how to purchase more in the US. A great place.
We were there in October of 2012 and thought that the country was charming. We will never forget our tour of Framingham Winery. The tastings were spectacular and we were sorry that we didn't ship a case of wine home.
Tis place produces close to 20 wines and you can taste most on a on given day for free. Also, if you buy a bottle, you have e chance to do a blind taste test to win a free bottle. Wild highly recommend this place.
We sampled the large range on offer from their cellar door and in particular were taken by the different Rieslings in their range. From the very dry, crisp style - best drunk with food such as a lemon infused ceviche of (raw) fish, an “off-dry” Riesling with a hint of sweetness, perfect with any cooked seafood dish, to a medium sweet “classic” style typical of many European Rieslings and an excellent match for spicy Asian dishes or Thai curries. Four very different tasting wines from the one variety of grape. Their wooded chardonnay is also very good and is an easy drinking style. They also offer a Montepulciano D’abruzzo red which compares with similar wines from the Tuscan region of Italy from where it hails. I suggest that finally you sample their Gewurztraminer Riesling which is a honey and marmalade flavoured sticky wine that will have your taste buds dancing. If you are seeking to taste a wide range of wines and also to discover the differences that can occur with the same grape varietal, picked and processed at different times and with different methods, then Framingham is well worth a visit.
This was the first stop on our wine tour this year. The wines would definitely appeal to white wine drinkers and yes, I did taste some even though my preference is for full-bodied reds. Worth a visit.
This is the must visit of the wineries, it was fantastic. The gardens were beautiful and the wine matched it in quality
