An amazing trek but be prepared with water and consider taking the fly net because they are quite annoying. We did the 7.4 km walk but left at 10am on a day that was going to 36 c. It is a grueling, up and down walk, the second half was a bit easier. You have beautiful views of Kata Tjuta and and we did see a wallaby but no other wildlife (except the black flies). You have to pump the water in, it is quite easy to become dehydrated. There is water available on the walk so make sure to fill up whenever possible. We did not see any other people on the middle two thirds of the walk. We did not do a tour and found the the trail very well marked for the most part. The only fee was a $25AUD park fee that was good for three days.

Valley of the Winds is a zone in Kata Tjuta Rocks, where you can do trekking and enjoy with the beautiful views of Kata Tjuta. It is great! In fact, there is a walking path called "Valley of the Winds Walk" (about 7,5 km) and I recommend you to do it! You can enjoy with Karingana lookout, too, which is located in the forementioned walk.We went there in December and for this reason is necessary to begin the walk and visit this zone at the first morning.

We are a family with 3 kids age 12, 8 and 4. We hiked by ourselves the Valley of the Winds trail. It was a hard 4 hour 7.4km walk between, around and over the domes. Kata Tjuta is equally magnificent as Uluru, but instead of a single huge rock, it is made out of 36 monstrously big dome rocks. The hike took us away from everywhere and we felt at times like on a different planet. Exhausted we stopped at the sunset spot, and waited to witness a spectacular sunset over Kata Tjuta. This walk was totally doable with our kids in August. It probably took us about 5 hours. We had packed lunch with us and plenty of water. We stopped any time that the kids wanted to stop. But we all totally loved the entire experience and the kids felt very accomplished at the end. The place is truly beautiful and a was a highlight of our trip to the Red Centre.

Went on an organised tour. And to be honest, the track seems simple enough to follow without them but why would you? This is the outback with stuff that can kill you and getting lost would not be pretty. The walk is difficult in places. So not something for people impaired or unwilling. But the views overcome that easily for all others.

Best tour; it made our red centre experience!! Tour group was small and personable. We couldn't walk the distance as it was too hot but it didn't matter because the tour guide and company made up for it. Jooey our guide and Terry our bus driver were knowledgable, friendly, shared many great stories and showed great compassion for our safety and welfare; ensuring we had plenty of water. It was great to get that up close and personable with the Olgas too...anAmazing sight and highly worth it. If you do one thing Ayers Rock make sure this is it!!!

Certainly no easy walk - but - boy it's worth it'Start out early though and take the flynet if you can.
