Both conductor and orchestra keep the audience enthralled.Clearly passionate and love sharing their talent.Took my 5 & 7 yr old nieces to the Christmas Proms- they loved it.
An excellent way to spend an evening. They are superb and the repertoires are terrific. Located in the city makes it convenient. The variety is very good.
The fabulous ASO is right up there with the best in the world. They have a a wealth of talent and are just as comfortable playing Led Zeppelin as Mozart. The soloists are amazing and can match it with their peers around the world.A wonderful asset to South Australia.
We often attend the lunchtime concerts at Elder Hall, a lovely old building for a great orchestra. There is really nothing to dislike about this venue, the orchestra, or the price of tickets.
Both the soloists were great and the ASO as always, good to listen to. Very enjoyable evening. Noting not to like.
Have just received their programme for 2015. To quote "...a year filled with great artists performing great music by great composers." Everything from the expected classics through to Led Zeppelin, Last Night at the Proms and a Gallipoli World Premiere "Towards First Light - Gallipoli at 100". I love it that Adelaide has such a world class progressive orchestra and I just love the fact that their versatility means that they 'pop up' and collaborate with the Adelaide Festival, the Cabaret Festival, State Opera of South Australia and The Australian Ballet performances during the year as well as their own comprehensive programmes.
We enjoyed a great evening of Bond music played by the ASO, with our family (parents + teens) and grandma. They didn't play every single film theme from the last 50 years but chose a great range of styles and even did the more pop-style themes fantastically - with 2 guest singer-soloists where appropriate. The conductor gave the evening a very enjoyable entertainment/comedy overtone, and it included a demonstration of making a martini Bond-style. Well done ASO - keep the theme evenings coming !
Wow what a night. As usual the ASO performed another night of memorable tunes from the James bond stable.Goldfinger,Live 7 Let die etc....All controlled by the talented conductor Guy Noble who seemed to relish the job of presenter more so than conductor. The 2 vocalists Debora Krizak and Blake Bowden made for a grear night.Anothe night of wonderful music.
A city the size of Adelaide is so lucky to have an orchestra such as the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. They are world class. Their repertoire is so varied, appeal to a wide audience and attract some wonderful guests from around the world. Their concerts are always such an enjoyable experience.
We have enjoyed their concerts. They are very flexible with the music they play. Often backing 'rock' bands which makes for a great night. It is a very professional orchestra in touch with a range of audiences.
On a flying visit took pot luck and went to an ASO concert. A nice surprise for a small city. An Orchestra that oozed passion as well as technical skill, well led by their Estonian guest conductor. Lovely to see family members coming up to the stage at intermission to have a chat.
This orchestra are certainly worth a visit. Went to a free open air concert in the park during my stay in Adelaide and the orchestra were fabulous. When I return to Adelaide I will certainly book to see them
Hubby and I went to the Gala Opening 2014, Valentine's Day (well evening) concert with romantic music (Romeo & Juliet, Tch; and Scheherazade, RK). Sadly not full audience but great to hear around 70 musos, including the wonderfully ethereal violin in Sch. Also a lovey warm evening to wander round afterwards. Looking forward to our next visit when they're playing 'James Bond'.
How lucky are South Australians to have such fine musicians, playing such wonderful music under the baton of Arvo Volmer (he will be missed)
This orchestra has come such a long way under Arvo. It will be interesting to watch their continued development.Them are a wonderful group of musicians who have come such a long way""
