platform 1 heritage farm railway

We only called in for a brief visit, but the devonshire tea was fabulous! We didn't have time to explore the other attractions on offer, but this looks like a great place to visit for families with small children.

Wow, this is definitely a must do when staying I Adelaide and travelling thought the Adelaide Hills. Every hour (9-4pm) the little train travels through the farm (approx 20min ride) and the owner gives a little history about his family's farm and train travels.Also at the farm are animals you can feed, a cafe and gift shop, and most amazingly an interactive museum. Travelling with a toddler and he was kept busy the whole time and could run around freely. They cater for parties, have a B&B, and are very helpful.

What a great place for kid's birthday parties. My son & his mates were treated to an awesome time with fun games & train ride. The staff had them rolling with laughter. But there is more then that with a small history exhibition & interaction centre to explore. Mums & dads love this place too. Well worth a visit even for those who are not into trains.

Girls loved to explore the displays and play with the outdoor games. Had a good time patting the animals The murals in the toilets are amazing. Enjoyed the little train ride

This attraction is held every Friday and Saturday night after dusk from November to March, There is off street parking and a short walk to the reception area and souvenir shop. Karen Liebelt was our host who issued tickets. At 9:15pm we were guided by Amanda Liebelt to a large open sided barn where an excellent Visual display was projected onto a large screen briefly explaining the history of the early settlers and in particular the Liebelt family and farm from the early 1800’s. Black and white photographs of the family of yesteryear were enthralling. Another short walk found us in a genuine Ghan dining car circa 1955. The carriage is in its original condition and took us on an imaginary ride to Mount Barker station. Here participants were treated to a homemade supper and a chance to chat and visualise a train journey in the 1950’s. Right on time we transferred to the miniature train. Amanda (our conductor) punched our tickets with an antique device and escorted us to the train driven by Glenn Liebelt. This particular night was balmy with a hazy crescent moon and starry sky. The faithful farm dog began barking then Glenn’s father began to tell us about life on the farm from his childhood through the depression, war years and the modern era. As we moved off, the sound effect of a steam locomotive could be heard and throughout the journey various spectacular light and sound effects accompanied the stories. Travelling through the farm in total darkness with spectacular gum trees and other features of the story illuminated at various points, added to the atmosphere along with sheep and cattle caught in the spotlight. The show finished at 10:15

Celebrated a seniors birthday with family. We were so well looked after. Started by looking at, patting, and feeding various animals. Then the railway museum where we had fun with whistles and signals, as well as reading some of the local history. Then off to play some old (non digital) games - horseshoes, skittles etc. Then the miniature train where points of interest were mentioned, including the family history of the owners, and gum trees up to 400 years old. Finishing with afternoon tea of scones and muffins, soft drinks and cappuchinos etc. Lovely day, sunny and not too hot. What more could one ask for a 75th with children and grandchildren all together.

Just had my sons 3rd birthday party here, kids had an absolute ball and adults enjoyed the fun too. LOVED IT :)

Tucked away in the Adelaide Hills on a road between Balhannah and Littlehampton is the historic farm. I love places that show how things used to be and the Liebelt family certainly have a long history in the area. The little train ride was cute particularly because the pet sheep kept jumping in the drivers set every time Karen Liebelt got out. Certainly the children on the train loved helping change the lines and Karen involved them in the trip. The historic home and history is very interesting.

We were pleasantly surprised by our visit here. The staff were all very nice and helpful, especially the young girl at the counter. The farm animals are friendly (especially Ginger the farm cat) and the olden style games are fun to have a go at. The train ride around the farm was interesting and a nice way to get a feel of the place. The train memorabilia is interesting for the train enthusiast. We spent a lovely few hours here and it was very pleasant indeed :)

A heritage farm with a quaint little train ride and a few animals for the children to get up close to, but it really is a fairly average tourist attraction. We had seen it highlighted on a tourist television show, and the website sounds great but it was quite disappointing in reality. The owner is very friendly and enthusiastic about his property, and the highlight is the sheep who rides in the engine with the driver.
