loxton historical village

Didn't know what to expect when visting the historical town of loxton - was very impressed and glad we went. had two teenagers In tow and found it very educational, interesting and well presented! would definitely recommend anyone that is interested in Australian history to visit!

We have been to Loxton a few times before and always said we should go into this Village but never did it. well this time we did and we are so very happy we did. It was incredible. It has been put together very well and all displays are well worth the look at. We spent around 4 hours there and enjoyedeveryinute we were there the Lady in the front office was ever so friendly and also any staff we encountered in the Village were too. Even the wildlife living in the grounds were great.anyone who is up at Loxton or in the immediate area should pay this village a visit as I am sure you will enjoy every minute and all you see.toilets and drinks ar available and also limited snack type foods are also there to buy.

Loxton Historical Village is definitely a museum with a difference. We loved the way they brought each building to life. Make sure you go to Church here, even if you don't usually! Friendly staff too.

Great place to visit, so much history saved, entering each building triggers a recording telling how things were done in the past so much more interseting, lots to see

This is the best I have been to seen lots of great ones but I give this one 10/10 interesting grandkids loved it ,lots to look at lots for the kids to interact with.

The loxton historical village is well laid out, with a lot of history about the riverland. The 1956 flood was very interesting, old machinery, steam locomotive and tractors. A must for kids.

We went on a quiet day as school holidays hadn't started. Had a two for one voucher thanks to travelauctions.com.au so we definitely had value for money walking around and learning about life back in the day. Worth a look!

Cost was about $12 for adults and there were concessions. Friendly staff. Automatic narratives on entry to each display. There were sheep, chickens and a kangaroo wandering around the enclosure. Plenty of parking. Good value for money.

Travelled from Barmera to Loxton (about 40 min trip). Village is down near river. Great spot. I think it was $32 for family. Each building has interesting facts about the old days when you enter it. Some sheep and a friendly kangaroo also roam around. Just enough to see with a young family. Will be back with parents for a more detailed look.

a bit outdated, but still some interesting things for the younger ones to see. easy access and walk through. lovely location.

We found this fascinating and we learnt so much about the area. Will definitely explore again when we are in the area. But if you're into history allow at least two to three hours,

Got there at 3. Closes at 4. Not enough time to justify the $12.50 entry. Looked through and over the fence and could see that there was a lot of interesting stuff, probably a lot more we COULDN'T see. Oh well, next time we're in the area we'll get there earlier.

Loxton is the "Garden Town" of the beautiful Riverland located on the mighty Murray River approximately 300 km from Adelaide (SA) and 160 km from Mildura (Vic). Available to visit is the historic village on the river front where you can go back to the time of the early settlers. The Pines historic home and garden portrays the style of an 1860's well to do landowner. Accommodation is abundant and includes a Caravan Park on the river; and being an RV friendly town a separate site for self contained RV's Katarapko National Park (through which the river meanders) for camping and numerous B&B's in Loxton and adjacent towns. Visit local boutique wineries and the largest commercial winery in the Southern Hemisphere (at Berri). For the children the Monash crazy playground will delight them with quirky amusements.

Really interesting, lots of information about different aspects of life but in an easy way for kids to read and understand. Allow 2 hours max if you have kids who will get bored if you go too slowly. We missed the "live day" by 1 week which was a shame.
