It was a beautiful day so we started with a bonus but it was just a wonderful lunch. The hosts, Rowland and Shelley, were informative, attentive and always timely with offers of help and advice. We enjoyed a tasting of their lovely wines followed by excellent lunch platters as we ended up sharing a table with a lovely couple we had met whilst tasting. Would have to be one of the best views in McLaren Vale.

We went to this lovely modern winery last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed a cheese platter and a glass of wine. We had the opportunity to taste up to 6 wines which was more than enough. We happily left with bottles of our favourites. This winery is only open on weekends, but well worth a visit. Lovely hosts and fabulous views from the large windows. The carp ark is however much lower than the winery and a steep walk for disabled folk who forgot their walking stick ! You could get the driver to drop you up at the door and then drive to the carpark. Taste a wine while waiting for them to appear !!! Otherwise, absolutely enjoyable experience.

My husband was given a voucher for a cheese platter and wine for Christmas which was very well received. The wine range and quality was excellent and the cheese platter adequate. The view was really delightful but a note of caution- the car park is downhill from the venue so the road up is very steep so I would advise that those not of not so nimble foot should be dropped at the door. We are really pleased to be introduced to Maximus and have recommended them to our friends in our wine club

We went for a let lunch with a platter and wine tasting. The wines are excellent and the food good. The venue still needs a bit of work outside. It would be nice if there were more room to sit outside on a sunny afternoon.

We bought 2 x Groupon vouchers and visited the winery on 5 October as a birthday treat for our friends. We had a great experience, lovely wines and 2 delicious, fresh platters to share. Beautiful views and a great atmosphere. We took advantage of the wine 3 for 2 deal and left very happy!

I went to Maximus on a Scoupon voucher with my parents in October 2014. The cellar door has a great view and is very modern inside. Rowland being the wine maker was very knowledgable about the wines. The food platter was lovely. However I thought that being restricted to tasting only 6 wines was odd especially being a cellar door that does tastings for sales rather than brand awareness. Most cellars doors let you try what you want or ask you to pay a supplement for their premium wines. Shelley gave no information on the wine at all and we too found her a little abrupt. By bringing tastings to the table I think the hosts made a lot more work for themselves. The 2008 Centurion ? Shiraz is superb and at 25 dollars a bottle a bargain. One of the best Shiraz in Mclaren Vale IMHO and well worth the trip to Maximus alone. The wines are all reasonably priced around the 20-30 dollar mark. Worth a visit.

This winery is ideal for large groups. Plenty of space for car parking. The staff were very friendly and passionate about their wine. We had a group of 10 and tasted a variety of wines.

I visited Maximus wines and enjoyed a platter with accompanying wines that was really enjoyable. The cellar door is elevated on the higher section of Foggo Road and has a view over the surrounding areas. Very pleasant to sit there and enjoy the food and wine. The quality of the wine was good and typical of the McLaren Vale area. The winery is owned and managed by Rowland and Shelley Short. Shelley attended to us on the visit and I found her to be very friendly and helpful. I would recommend paying a visit and enjoying the view with food and wine.

What more can I say..... We went on a Scoopon and had a platter and the wine tastings. The place was buzzing and the hosts enjoyed the atmosphere and were able to get round to everyone and keep them happy. The Platter was lovely and the wines were gorgeous. We had a great afternoon and would definitely go back and recommend it to anyone. Thanks... :-) xxx

Hello CaroleThanks for your kind words. Shelley and I are very pleased that you both had a great Fathers Day experience with us and also that you enjoyed our wines. We look forward to seeing you again when you have an occasion to celebrate, or just for no reason. Best regards, Rowland

Hi Charlene - thank you for your feedback, Rowland and I take your comments very seriously because you - the customer are the reason we exist and we want to ensure that our Cellar Door patrons have a wonderful experience and enjoy their time with us. We have had an enormous response to the Scoopon promotion with the vast majority of people giving us wonderful feedback on the wine, food and overall experience. Just for your information, we source produce for our platters from local producers (butcher, baker, local olives, homemade dips) and cheeses from an Adelaide Providore (many other cellar doors use this same Providore). I am very sorry that you have perceived me to be rude and condescending as that is not what I am like at all! Clearly you have interpreted my sense of humour as rudeness. I am very aware of the short but fairly challenging climb up to the cellar door and you have misconstrued my empathy for condescension. Where needed (if customers tell me) I offer to ensure parking is available for people with injury or disability, parking alongside the Cellar Door. In conclusion, we are pleased that we were able to accept your booking before the Scoopon voucher expired and that you chose to celebrate your friends birthday with us. We accept that the experience for which you paid $18 per couple and included a platter for two, a $25 bottle of wine to take home and a free hosted tasting may not have met your expectations, however we hope you will come back again and we will do our very best to deliver an excellent experience! with regards, Shelley

We shared a very fresh and tasty food platter with 6 tasting wines. Great value overlooking a lovely location. Very friendly hosts. Bought some excellent wine to take home.

Maximus Wines exceeded our expectations so much that we couldn't believe we hadn't visited there earlier. When our party of 3 arrived the place was packed, that didn't worry the hosts at all who gave us a warm welcome and introduction to the cellar door.Next it was the tough decision of choosing which wines to taste of their huge selection. Of course the experience was made a whole lot easier with the experience and knowledge of the hosts and wine/chocolate pairing? Yes please!Even with a full house our hosts managed to serve us so well it puts some other cellar doors to shame- amazing. What a McLaren Vale gem we found that afternoon. Some advice though, if you try this wine atway the endplace of Junethe and have already committed to 'dry July' you are in for a long long month. Can't wait to crack that Max'd Out Shiraz in August! Thanks guysHamish
