Gorgeous building, friendly and helpful staff and really nice and interesting wines. I even liked wines I don't normally like.
I went in a group with two friends and my mum. We are all young professionals (with the exception of my mum). We had already visited two wineries in the McLaren Vale and done previous trips in the Barossa and the Adelaide Hills. Out of the 10 wineries we visited on our holiday, this was by far the most disappointing. We were blown away by the spectacular view. It truly is a beautiful setting. However, that was the end of the pleasant experience. We were there to taste and purchase wine. The staff were rude and unhelpful. They were obviously rushed and perhaps understaffed, though we had been to other busier wineries and the staff in those locations were able to manage the customers. The wine was very mediocre and the staff would slosh the wine into the glass, often spilling it on the outside of the glass and our hands. They also made it very clear that they were very put out when we asked them for the characteristics of the wine. I had selected two wines that I was happy to purchase in support of the winery and my friends were also keen to purchase. However after waiting more than 20 minutes for our final wine on the tasting menu, we gave up on trying the final wine and our purchases. It was a real shame. The view truly is beautiful - so if you are determine to go, it might be best to go for a coffee.
Not only a great winery and tasting room but also has accommodation. We stayed for three nights and had a wonderful time. The staff are great, especially Steve who runs the tasting room. The platters and breakfasts are made from local produce on the premises (including bread, muesli and yoghurt) and is delicious. Free WiFi and spacious rooms with great views. Highly recommend!
What an entertaining wine tasting - a great variety of wonderful wines with very personable and knowledgeable wine staff( not bad to look at either). We stayed for the delicious carnivore and herbivore platters on their lovely verandah. Great value and wonderful views. Exceptional service. Hard to beat.
This is a beautiful place, by far the nicest vineyard in the region. Beautiful views and architecture. We didn't do any tasting, but enjoyed a coffee on the balcony overlooking the vines. Really lovely.
Only a short visit on our wine tour but the wine was enjoyable staff very friendly and the views a great attraction to this area of South Australia
The views from this Winery are amazing. Great photo opportunities! The Chapel is also a very lovely historic touch. Tasty wines with friendly knowledgeable staff. We purchased several bottles of wine and also joined their VIP Membership so hoping we continue to experience great wine from here. Would recommend all to make the visit out here!!
While the wines at Chapel Hill aren't really to my taste, the staff were very friendly and relaxed and it was a nice setting. As we were a large group there was a $5 tasting fee which was then redeemable towards any purchases there.
We've spent eight days both in Barossa and McLaren Vale. And we did lots of tastings. In this review you will read my opinion about the wines. But since wine is very much about personal taste, it doesn't necessarily mean that you will share my opinion. You might hate the wine I liked and vice versa. So much about that, here we go:Chapel Hill was our last stop on that day. The building does look like an old chapel indeed and even inside (including an organ).Besides two guest (who stayed about 5mins) we were the only ones on that late afternoon. Staff was great here....had a good chat and took lots of time explaining their wine and more. The wine is very good too here. We didn't care much about the Whites though. We came for the Reds. The Sangiovese and the Mourvedre were good. The Shiraz is very nice - heavy and dark. But we also liked the Bush Vine Grenache very much ... something different from the usual Shiraz. Very good indeed. The Vicar (Shiraz) wasn't available for tasting on that day...too bad. But luckily Chapel Hill sells their wine in my country too, so we got some 2008 Vicar in the end back home. It's a very good winery. Friendly, peaceful and quiet on a nice location. And good wine too! Recommended!Wanna know more about me and my trips? Check my profile.
The chapel and tasting room are simply gorgeous and the wines do not leave you wanting. Great personalised service, quality wines and a brilliant subscription plan that does not bombard you wines. I look forward to our small, but regular, deliveries!
We visited Chapel Hill during an outing to the McLaren Vale region in the summer of 2014.Chapel Hill was one of the earlier wineries we visited.I had never tried Chapel Hill's wines before, but to my surprise, the flagship red 'The Vicar' didn't impress me greatly. The man who served us, who was in the process of becoming a winemaker, was generous enough to open two reds which normally are only available for tasting on weekends. These were the Chosen Road Block shiraz and the Chosen Gorge Block shiraz. It was very interesting to compare the stark differences between these two wines, whose vineyards are perhaps 30 metres apart and separated by a road.We were explained the composition of the soil and clay, and how it changed the flavour and feel of the wines, which was very apparent on the palate. We appreciated the experience, and bought a bottle of the Chosen Road Block shiraz, which was the most outstanding wine we tried there. The winery itself features a chapel, and nice views of the region. The cellar door is airy, and hogshead/puncheon barrels positioned around the room form tasting tables, where we were left to our own devices to sample the wines and enjoy the experience. As surprising as it was for the flagship wine not to particularly appeal to me, it was nice to compare and contrast different wines, and it's a cellar door worth visiting.
This winery was set in a cute old chapel (hence the name) but the staff were quite welcoming and friendly. Apparently they also run cooking courses which I am sure would be amazing, although I didn't have time to look into this.
This is my favourite cellar door, it is helped that there wine is of an excellent quality. Easy access from the highway and ample parking. Good selection to taste and often have some great deals. Staff are friendly and attentive. Check out the olive oil also - very high quality
Chapel Hill Winery has a beautiful historic building- worth checking out! We tasted many delicious and were delighted when the young lady introduced us to the 2011 Grenache! Delicious!!! We left with a great experience and a few good bottles for dinner, thank you :)
We went to various wineries in South Australia and bought lots of wine. Love the region and the wine but were extremely disappointed at Chappel Hill, very poor customer service and over priced wine. Much better wineries to visit on the area than this!
