murphys haystacks

Probably not worth a special visit but certainly call in if nearby. Strange rock formations, much larger than you think when you get close.There is a honesty box at the entrance, only $2 so a small price to pay for the upkeep of the area.

This was interesting to see the formations and read the story why they are called Murphys Haystacks. Some of the written displays need updating as the writing is fading. There was a good clean toilet which was a pleasant surprise and also a covered area so you can take a picnic lunch and have a rest from the sunny in the warmer months. It is entry by a coin donation which I hope everyone does as it's not much and it helps to the upkeep.

An Irishman thought these boulders were haystacks shimmering in the hot sun - hence the name. They are in fact a collection of huge boulders and pillars that stand out amongst the countryside. There is a small fee to enter the field and we wandered around looking at the various shapes one of which we thought looked like an elephant feeding! It is worth a visit.

Very interesting stone structures! However the flies were unbelievable!! Wear a fly net. Interesting drive to get there but easy to miss the sign.

Amazing in the middle of no- where. But only a fewHaystack rocks. It's not something you would go back too. $2 entry fee but no one to monitor this - just a tin can donation. Guess it's to maintain the car park & walking path.

Well worth a visit only a short drive from the highway, good turning circle for vans. Honesty $2 coin donation. Half an hour stroll along the oath way, several clusters of rocks with some explanation detail on their occurrence. Photogenic!

Murphy's Haystacks are on private property in the middle of a wheat field on a windy hill in the Streaky Bay area. Toilets and a picnic table are provided at the gate and a good walking path to these huge granite boulders. A small fee is requested with an honesty box to help the farmer with the upkeep of the facilities Well worth the visit!.

The 'haystacks' are a pretty impressive assemblage of oversized granite boulders on a wind-blown hilltop. Shaped by the elements, the boulders have plenty of character, with different shapes and sizes and hues of grey, orange and pink (which can vary depending on the light conditions). There are picnic tables and toilets - a good place to take a break and have a stroll.

Murphys Haystacks is very accessible. It has toilet facilities and a good walking path. It is a 'not to be missed' attraction if you are visiting the Eyre Peninsula.

We enjoyed our recent visit yo the Eyre peninsula, including Murphy's Haystacks. Amazing granite inselbergs accessed by good roads from streaky Bay. Located on private land, a small honesty admission charge is payable at the gate. The 'haystacks' were stunning and well worth the visit.

Our last tourist stop for today was at Murphy’s Haystacks. Last time we were here the weather was unpleasant – cold and wet. This time, though, was lovely sunshine. Even though it was late-ish in the day (4pm), it was still good viewing – actually, the angle of the sun mad the light on the rocks really interesting. Neither of us remembered there being as many rocks as there are – maybe with the rain we didn’t walk around all of them.

If you are passing nearby, make the effort to go and have a look at these local marvels and take a couple of pics home. Just another of the many places of interest in this area.
