We are not big wine drinkers but decided to drop into this wineryWas given generous wine tasting and great cheese tastingThe Owners were very friendly and had great knowledge the areaMost presently suprised
Heading south from McLaren Vale with the intention of buying anything along the way, we arrived in Victor Harbor with an amazing selection of local produce. First, we picked up heirloom tomatoes & garlic and then an enormous punnet of 2nds strawberries for $10 from roadside stall at Mt Compass.Next, we dropped into Alexandrina Cheese Company for taste of (mainly hard) cheeses, including 'squeaky' cheddar curd, as well as the thickest Jersey cream you're ever likely to encounter. We were disappointed to miss out on the promised views of Mt Jagged Winery but this was more than compensated by an impromptu decision to turn into the unassuming Victor Harbor Winery. Here, honest, good value wines were presented alongside a selection of award-winning goats milk cheeses from the neighbouring Hindmarsh Valley Dairy. In contrast to the previous dairy, there were 8 cheeses from which to choose and in small enough portions to make a wider range of choices affordable. In particular, we were excited to taste and purchase a hard raw goats milk; chevrotin; halloumi and fromage de chèvre. We also walked out with bottles of Mont Rosa Rose & Sauvignon Blanc ($15) and cleanskin case for a bargain $80.At Victor Harbor, we headed to The Bluff to treat ourselves to a picnic platter and vista that would be the envy of many of the fine-dining establishments we passed along the way!
Like a few others on here, we stumbled on this little gem whilst travelling from Victor Harbor to McLaren Vale. Although they are closed on Mondays when we called in, Neville kindly offered to open up as I was more interested in the goats cheese than the wines. The goats cheese is simply awesome and we bought all four of the different varieties on offer. Didn't get a chance to try the wine but did buy one of their whites, based entirely on the reviews on here. Adrienne & Neville are very engaging and amiable hosts and the winery is one of the small, boutique-type we fancy, set in absolutely fabulous surrounds. A great treat, still enjoying the goats cheese three days later.
We stopped here after having seen the sign a number of times on the drive from Adelaide to Victor. I'm really pleased we did - Neville and Adrienne are a lovely, welcoming couple, and we had a great chat while we sampled the wines and goats cheese. The wines were excellent - some great Sauvignon Blancs in particular. We'll definitely be stopping by again in the future!
This is an absolute find...a lovely little boutique winery with a limited but excellent range of locally produced wines. The large dining room is ideal for groups and the owners are absolutely charming.I particularly enjoyed a glass of the quality rose with my goat's cheese ( which is also available at the winery).
We loved the Rose and Sauvigon Blanc served by the friendly owners. The views are extraordinary and atmosphere perfect when having lunch or afternoon tea. My friends loved the goat's cheese. Why aren't these wines served in Victor Harbor hotels and resturants?
sauvignon blanc that is not dominated by passionfruit fruit juice, confectionery flavours but is more complex, 'european' in style and is all the better for it. try the the excellent goat cheese available for sale also.
I liked the Sauvignon Blanc the best , I was so impressed and pleasantly surprised I will be buying for all my family members to try .
The Winery is also the Farm Door for Hindmarsh Valley Goat Dairy so you can try a variety a goat cheese and purchase some to go with your wine. A variety of wines are available and more than likely one of the owners wil be on hand to walk you through them. Great views.
