Over priced yet underwhelming food. Ordinary wine. And as noisy as all hell. Impossible to have a conversation without shouting. If you value your hearing and want value for money, go elsewhere.

Went here for lunch and shared a bottle of wine. Services was excellent. Very nice and convenient location. Nice views over the vineyard, and only 10 minutes or so from Launceston CBD. We had the grazing platter which was quite nice and enough for two people. Would recommend coming here if you're keen for a sit down with some good wine and nice food.

Every time I visit family in Tasmania I come here to order wine and usually have a lunch too. Food was good, but a little challenging for younger ones unless they want pizza. However, hands down, Velo's Pinot Gris is by far my favourite wine in the world. Smoot, velvety and a little fruity, but still dry enough for me. I'll keep coming back.

A great lunch with good wines... always a pleasure to have lunch at Velo. A great view overlooking the vines.

Lovely service and would have stayed for dinner but the restaurant was booked out. So get in early and try sitting outside on a warm evening.

My wife and I were lucky enough to have dinner at Velo wines while on holiday in Tasmania. We both thought the night at Velo was one of the best nights we'd had on our 12 day trip. We arranged to be picked up in Launceston so neither of us had to drive (we did it via the information centre, but you could do it directly with Velo when making your reservation. It's free of charge so a must really). Terry our driver, was a wealth of knowledge re the local area (he does cellar doors tours also so it's a good chance to arrange further tastings if your in the area for a couple of days or more). We were warmly welcomed at Velo and quickly found ourselves immersed in the local fair. Dinner was spectacular and we ended up doing all three courses, changing our wines to suit each course. From entree to desert the whole lot was amazing, for dessert we enjoyed the best panna cotta either of us had ever tasted! We're still in awe of how you can make something so good...it was sex on a plate. Coupled with the late harvest Sauvignon Blanc, there wasn't to much either of us could say other than "how do they do it" while tucking into some more. Great job Velo wines, I'm already checking out your online stock now that im back home. 6 out of 5!

Chef's own version of this dish was unexpected - yes it said veal sirloin BUT what happened to the thinly sliced veal that usually is associated with this - mine was a VERY large veal chop and not particularly tender or succulent - yes his version BUT for $32 i was disappointed - mash was good !!!!! in hindsight should i have asked for a detailed description - i know my food and i would not have thought that to be necessary - the vineyard setting is excellent so the day was saved (just)

We always ask at a winery "where would you suggest we stop" and this is how we found Velo, (named for an uncle who rode in the tour de france). Lunch (and the tastings were great). We shared an antipasti platter which was huge and even had fresh local oysters. The service was great even though they were fully booked for lunch - they fit us in as a drop by. We had a tasting, wine at lunch and then bought a bottle for later - they only charged us for the bottle - not the tasting and let us take the bottle back for later. What a treat and their wines were really nice.

A big thank you to the staff of Velo. Our group of 9 were treated very very well from the moment we arrived. We had booked our table a week ago with a preorder of Plat Du Jour platters. The staff were genuinely interested in us and gave us top class service throughout our visit. Smiling happy dedicated are 3 words that describe it best! Our gourmet food was very well presented and arrived quickly. I feel compelled to mention the Soup Du Jour; coconut, duck, coriander, lime and bok choy. Completely balanced and delicious! I could taste each ingredient in stages and all together as I enjoyed every mouthful of this cracker of a soup! One of the best I've ever eaten! A credit to Darren and the kitchen staff. Our choice of wine with lunch was the Velo 2006 vintage Dominique Sparkling. A perfect match! Mary provided an excellent presentation of her range of Velo wines at the cellar door. Passionate, informative and funny. Highly recommended. Well done Team Velo. Regards, Terry and Gillian

Stopped in for lunch after coming off the boat. Great service, wine tasting and food servings were excellent. We had the gnocchi and risotto with a Riesling. Could not fault it. We will recommend it to all.

We took a trip to Velo Winery for lunch on Saturday, and was left asking ourselves, why have we not been here before. We are locals, and visited on recommendation of a colleague. It is only a 5 - 7 minute drive from Launceston to this beautiful establishment, where you can have lunch (Wed-Sun) or complete a wine tasting. I would suggest making a booking if you can as some weekends they can be quite busy. They are also open some evenings as well, i would definitely recommend visiting. Check out their menu online.

Visited for lunch on a weekend. The cafe itself is quite nice with beautiful floor to ceiling windows looking out over the vines and farmland. Incredibly uncomfortable seats that forced you to sit perched forward the whole time. It seemed every other table had cushions on seats except ours. Service was friendly, but slow. It took about an hour for our meals to arrive which was a bit too long, considering there were only 4 other small tables of patrons. Most of our party ordered the pizzas, which were average at best, definitely lacking flavour. The polenta chips were huge and would have been better if they were half the size, with more dipping sauce. It seems to be the rule that food at winery cafes is more expensive than normal, but it definitely wasn't worth it here. The wine was nice enough, but I would not come back for the food.

This is one of the first vineyards as you leave Launceston on the Wset Tamar Highway. We misread the information and thought they opened at midday, however they are open daily from 10:00. We would have preferred a coffee and morning tea here, rather than in Launceston…but will remember next time. The restaurant, menu, view etc. all looked excellent and the tastings and information provided a great help.Would definitely recommend the wines and tasting here. The owner was very knowledgeable and patient and explained her and her husbands European history very well.Try and fit in a meal as well, as there did not appear to be too many eating options on the Tamar Wine Trail.

Visited Velo Wines for a wine tasting, having previously enjoyed the wines at Festivale. Several wines tasted were lovely and enjoyed at a leisurely pace with detailed and knowledgeable explanations by our personable young host who managed to successfully juggle and move between several stages of tasting for different visitors. Lovely cosy environment on a winters day so we decided to stay for lunch which also was a highlight.
