west coast heritage centre, zeehan

I particularly enjoyed the display of pictures in town groupings. Having lived in Zeehan many years ago this was most interesting, but it would have been nice to see material up to the present- images from 1960 to 2000 perhaps to illustrate the current situation. Surprising to realise how much of the Main Street is included in the Museum with the Court House, Masonic Temple and Theatre being part of the permanent exhibition. Do develop the exhibition of local life we saw in the theatre as this was most evocative. Are there plans to improve the buildings on the other side of the road- a facelift perhaps as it seems a lot more could be made of the town? Although most people are passing though it seems, many stop for the break. But back to the Museum- worth the visit to support the community.

You are right about Zeehan being a major Town, in its heyday Zeehan was the third largest Town in Tasmania with a population of 10,000.We are pleased you enjoyed the Theatre, it is one of the last remaining buildings from that era.We hope to see you again one day.
