The cellar door surprised me. Has a some great wines to sample, all very good quality in whites and reds, pricing similar to others in area. Relaxed environment, pleasant staff, plenty of parking. Cafe there if needing to eat or coffee, toilets available. Worth a visit.
Great location and decor.Burnt coffee was a disappointment.Food is quite nice, but abit overpriced.Wine is very good and recommend.
For part of my birthday weekend surprise to Bowral, my hubby arranged for us to have a private tour of this lovely winery in Eling Forest on Saturday 5 July. Winemaker Mark was our tour guide and it was not only educational but quite fun. Mark was very knowledgeable but also a good conversationalist. We then taste-tested most of the wines on offer and Mark had booked us a table for lunch in the adjoining cafe. It is unusual that the Sparkling is hand bottled and the process is quite interesting. We enjoyed most of the wines - in particular Cuttaway Hill Sparkling (Brut) and Cuttaway Hill SSB. I had the Ploughman's Lunch which was quite filling and had diverse offerings, and my hubby thoroughly enjoyed the 48hour beef burger (as recommended by Mark!). We then purchased some wine for home but would love to order more online in the future. The cost of the tour was $20pp and we highly recommend it. The views were lovely but it was a little too chilly to spend too much time enjoying the outdoors and taking photos! The cafe was nice and warm and well priced.
Went here and enjoyed a wine tasting of some brilliant Southern Highlands wines. We were with Ian, one of the winemakers, who taught us so much more about wines and wine making. Thanks Ian.
A great establishment, but has sadly been sold to foreign investors.I am afraid it will lose all of its appeal
Bout 1.5hr south of Sydney it's a top little spot for a decent breakfast. If you're heading South the driveway to the winery is straight off the Hume Hwy so no searching around for this place. Short driveway up to the cafe & clean toilets. Saw the chef taking cuttings from the herbs being grown around the cafe which is nice to see knowing that they are freshly picked. Didn't try any wine because it was too early in the day but might do if we end up here for lunch. Will definitely be back if passing by and in need of a pit stop !
Nice surroundings, pretty garden. There's a north-facing terrace which is lovely in the cooler weather or you can go indoors and gaze into the embers of the open fire. I have found their tea better than the coffee; the snacks and cakes are good. Many people linger over lunch but we tend to make this a half hour break. Order at the counter, pay, take a number on a stick and you don't wait long. Courteous service. Loos are good too.
We have found Eling a great place to stop on our travels to and from Canberra. Have enjoyed the food and coffee.
We have driven past a number of times and kept meaning to stop and try the coffee. Well this time we finally did stop and found it quite a nice diversion from the boredom of the Hume Highway.Although we only had coffee, the cakes and the lunch food all looked very good. The quality of the coffee was good and certainly a far nicer place to stop than at the Golden Arches or the Shell Service station food stop at Sutton Forest. For those interested, there is the ability to try some of their wines. There is a $5 per person charge (redeemable from the cost of any wines you buy)
On the left hand side of the road heading south from Sydney to Canberra. Good place to stop for a break and to sample some local wines.
We have eaten here a couple of times. Both in the restaurant and in the cafe. On each occassion the food has been great. The restaurant can be booked out well in advance so plan ahead if you want this for something special. I had the soft shell crab with asain flavours. Very nice entree. On Sunday they also have a roast which was very very tempting. If i was not cooking a hot dinner for tea i would definately had chosen the roast pork. Otherwise there is the cafe/cellar door which has coffees, cake, wine tasting and nice lunch dishes. I had the pea and ham soup which was beautiful and thick, and hot. Very nice. The little lunch pies are also nice with unusual fillings. In the winter there is a lovely open fire to huddle around. Make this your next stop on the way along the Hume. Take a break. You won't be disappointed. There are also some home made goodies to pick up like preserved lemons, homemade museli etc
It's more than a pit stop, offering a tranquil escape from the highway monotony with good food and wine (if you're lucky enough not to be the driver!). The menu is varied and the food is freshly prepared and generally seasonal, but if you just fancy a treat, coffee or tea and scrumptious cakes of all types are a plenty. You won't find better locally!!
This is a lovely little winery with cafe and restaurant. The service is fast and friendly and they offer a wide selection of meals, snacks and cakes as well as great coffee. You will never stop at a roadhouse again after you have been here. You can get a quick coffee or linger for a few hours to have a meal and enjoy the lovely gardens. Highly recommended.
This is a great place to stop on the otherwise dull and inhospitable stretch of highway south of Sydney. Much better than the service station road houses with their poor food, worse coffee and dirty facilities. We drove in via a shady lane, parked beneath green spreading trees, had good coffee served in a cheerful setting and ate freshly baked pie. Charming!
It's good for us because it's almost exactly halfway between Sydney and Canberra, so it's a good place to stop for a breakfast or lunch. We like the coffee there, it's cosy with the open fireplace, they do a good bacon and eggs for breakfast but have a good selection of other dishes, and of course you can taste wines and learn about them from the knowledgeable staff, who are always friendly. We were particularly happy this time because we were there a little early, 8:30am on a Sunday morning, but they were open already. It's become a regular stop-over for us whenever we make the trip up to the big smoke.
