thirlmere lakes national park

Just an hours drive from Sydney is this quite little national park. The main attraction is the lake around which the park is built. When we went, it was as quite as a place could get. The park has two nicely made picnic areas. One is called the Weri Beri picnic area and the other the pump-house picnic area. We found the latter to be a better location to spend some time around. There were many birds and I reckon it will also be a good place for birding. Both the wetland species and the ones preferring scrub-land. The place was very quiet and and we could only hear the sounds of birds and flutter of leaves. Once you enter the park, you will have to drive on unsurfaced/ gravel road for about 10 minutes. The roads however can be easily driven on, even on a 2WD. A lovely breakaway place for any nature loving family.
