When reviewing restaurants in Australia, one has to bear in mind that there are two completely different standards of cooking. In the big cities there are world class restaurants and these need to be evaluated differently from the small town and rural pubs etc where the cooking can best be described as home cooking or old fashioned pub grub. This little unlicensed cafe offers a very restricted snack menu but has a magnificent view over a mango plantation to the mountains beyond. It is well worth visiting if only for the view, but we had lunch there and for this type of restaurant, we thought it was pretty good though somewhat expensive. I had a chicken Caesar Salad which was freshly made and delicious as a light main meal, though I would have appreciated a little more dressing. My friend had a hamburger and chips. The hamburger was excellent and the chips nicely crunchy. I would have liked a beer, but as the cafe is unlicensed and did not offer fizzy mineral water, we had to settle for soft drinks followed by coffee. The bill for the two of us came to around $a40. The toilets were clean. If I return to the Glass House Mountains, I am likely to go back to the restaurant, if only for the view.
This really has to be one of the best locations for a coffee and light meal in Glasshouse Mountains. The menu is not very extensive and the smoked salmon needed capers (the waitress didn't even know what these were!). There is so much potential for this cafe the menu needs to be further developed. It is a good spot to stop on your way to the lookout.
Lovely food, friendly staff, parking. Great location and views. Around lunch time the family of Kangaroos hop in for a rest under the Mango trees.
This is a nice enough place to stop for a meal or snack if you're on the way somewhere else, but it's probably not worth a trip in itself unless you live nearby. The Devonshire Tea was delicious - freshly baked scones, decadent clotted cream, and tasty preserves - but the rest of the menu is a bit hit or miss. The views are nice enough, but if you've been to the Blue Mountains, you might be underwhelmed. If you're lucky, you may see some wild kangaroos wandering about.
Service wasn't too bad, overall was dissapointed with the meal. The toast was that stale that it was like concrete.. And the coffee was too weak. Amazing view and scenery though
We came across this place by accident, travelling from Sydney to Brisbane to Peregian Beach, we went to find the lookout point and found this cafe. The menu had so many delicious sounding things it was hard to choose, three of us went for the hot baguette, Brie and salmon, one for hot baguette with chicken and the kids had hot chips. Wow, this was so delicious and filling with a magnificent view and to top it off wild kangaroos with joeys in their pouches. The staff were friendly, cannot fault this place. We will be back.
Visiting from Canada and our family wanted to show us this beautiful place. Stopped over for tea and to enjoy the view. Absolutely loved the fresh biscuits with cream, wish I had the recipe so that I could enjoy them at home on a cold winters day.Definately wll be back on our next trip back to Australia.
I visited the Lookout Cafe on morning when I needed a little quiet time by myself and found it very good the food was good and the staff very pleasant and it was a nice quiet place to sit and relax and take in the scenery as I love the scenery of the Glasshouse mountains always beautiful and it is a pleasant drive up the mountain
We go to this cafe regularly having found it by accident. Give it a try, the food is brilliant, the staff are really lovely ladies and the environment is gorgeous. I cannot fault it in any way.
Fantastic spot. Lovely food. Good service. We even got to watch the kangaroos from the verandah which the kids love!
We stayed at the stunning Glass on Glasshouse for a romantic weekend away and decided on the morning we checked out to have breakfast at the Lookout Cafe as it's on the same property. It was beautiful and quiet - not busy at all and we were very keen for a lovely calm last morning. We ordered and 20mins after ordering our coffees came out which we thought was a bit ridiculous considering there were only 3 other couples in the cafe at the time. Another 45mins past and we still had not received our breakfast, all we ordered was eggs on toast..not exactly a complicated gourmet dish. After making an enquiry we were told that the chef was new and obviously not coping but we still struggled to understand what he wasn't coping with there was only 2 orders ahead of us and at that point no one had received food the entire time we were there. Once the food finally arrived it was pleasant - by far not the best eggs benedict I've ever received but edible. Once we finished we got up to leave and could see 2 staff in the kitchen just watching the poor chef try and cook the meals. My advice would be to put your other staff to work if the chef isn't coping - have them toast bread or make coffees or get other food prepped to be cooked... We won't be going back sadly.
Surprised to find such a good menu. Great views, good photo opportunity. Had the burgers very good a feast. A little gem.
We stumbled across this cafe and turned the car around to go here. A lovely cafe with great snacks with a breathtaking view of the glasshouse mountains. There were wild Kangaroos out and mulling about while we enjoyed our coffee and treats.
Fabulous. The light at around 3.30 pm was just gorgeous and made for great photos. We sat out on the deck and marvelled at the beauty. Just had a soy latte and cappuccino with a delicious slice of cake, banana and walnut loaf I think? Can't comment on the rest of the food on offer but it looked good and the prices were reasonable. Totally worth it for that view.
Location was excellent, views spectacular, staff - extremely good, friendly, helpful. We were told that there would be a long wait before we went ahead and ordered, which we didn't mind with such spectacular views Cappuccino was very hot (good) but really was just a white coffee with cinnamon on top, and as for the baguette - last time I came across anything like this was in a railway cafeteria during the war I'm not used to DIY baguettes. It was ham and onion marmalade. Still haven't found the marmalade! Other patrons seemed to love their Devonshire teas and cakes so next time that's what I will be ordering
