Very little info concerning the gardens and the growth, very disappointing. Also - to be expected, admittedly - there were squillions of very determined mosquitos, squadron after squadron, just waiting for visitors. And they must have been tourist visitors because no sane local would risk being set upon by so many biters!!Not worth the effort; find something somwhere else, anywhere else.
Opened in 1988 and I think plans for development may have stalled. While the initial entry and carpark has nice grassed areas around the lake and is well maintained, a lot of the rest of the park has minimal signage, signs broken, and not a lot of information on planted trees. Pathway around is stone and dirt and poor directional signs. Needs a lot of improvement to make a worthwhile amenity and be a font of knowledge of local plants and trees. Potential is there but needs a lot of effort. No entry fee and a chance to stretch legs and/or use toilet but only worth the stop if in the area and not rushed for time.
I used to live in this region. The park gives visitors the opportunity to see an impressive collection of local flora in the one area including many trees and shrubs which would otherwise only be viewed in dispersed locations. It also provides a good family stop-over point for a short break when traveling.
Just off the highway as you enter Goondiwindi coming from St George, this area is well worth a visit. A great collection of trees, shrubs and ground cover typical of the Western Woodlands of this area.Has picnic facilities, child play area.Very well described at this site www.goondiwindibotanicgarden.org
