This completely restored village is one of the best attractions you could possibly visit anywhere in Australia. The incredible love and hard work of mainly volunteers certainly shows through. You can spend almost a full day here walking the streets, and traveling back in time to the days of gold and tin mining, bullock teams, steam driven engines, early print works, schools, Hospitals, dentistry, radio, fire & Ambulance, antique cars & trucks, etc etc. If you come to Far North Queensland, don't miss this world class attraction !

It has been a few years since i have visited the village and i was really impressed with how much work has been done and how many more exhibits there were. Really fascinating. The addition of picnic tables near the new play area would be fantastic for those visiting with kids.Good facilities and nice tea rooms.

What an amazing place. After visiting a lot of living museums around Australia, this would definitely be the best example that I have ever had the fortune to experience. The detail in each shop/building is incredible. It is like stepping back in time. Tin signs, machinery, clothing, toys, books, musical instruments, medical displays etc were so detailed and well set out. We had lunch in the tea rooms which was homemade and beautiful. Please do yourself a favour and if you are ever in the Cairns area, drive to this amazing exhibition.

This village was a major surprise for us, and as we went around our smiles just grew, despite the showers we kept encountering! The village is well set out, and beautifully restored and kept, each attraction was thought provoking, I especially loved the school with its blackboards of grade exams, which reminded us of our childhoods without calculators! My husband loved the old steam equipment, mining tools and the old cars and tractors. The attention to detail is fabulous, every building has been lovingly prepared and gives you a slice of history in a country where the early pioneers and miners had to endure great difficulties. I was so impressed by the wealth of old photos, and artefacts. The cafe was fabulous too, lovely cakes and wonderful tea! Just a truly fabulous place, bring the kids they will enjoy it but if you want to soak it all up come on your own leave the kids with granny for the day, you will have a great time.

We visited about 3 years ago and the place has improved 100%. It was great then, and now is fantastic. Lots of new and interesting exhibits. The grounds are immaculate. Best part was being dog friendly. We took our 2 cockers and they were welcome everywhere including the café (on the veranda). Our 13 year old even found it interesting. Highly recommended.

If you like history well worth a visit. The history is all about the local area when tin and gold (many tin) was first discovered. The village is set up very well on both sides of the banks of a small beautiful creek, with a walking bridge joining both sides. When walking around the village you do get a great feeling that you are in history, the village is so life like a great feeling. Looking around the village will take 3 hours as there is so much to see and take in. There is a cafe in side. I had 2 young children under 10 they both enjoyed it heaps. Cost was $65 for a family 2 adults 2 children.

An extraordinary collection of historical memorabilia displayed in a recreated village with old buildings brought from all over the area and restored to their original state and purpose. Covering a period of over one hundred years, it is of interest to all ages and sexes. Allow at least half a day to do justice remembering it closes at 4.00 pm.

Have been there multiple times, for family and work. Always excellent, love the exhibits and displays which always seem to increase in number with each visit. Nice cafe in the old pub, good clean toilets, some places aren't wheelchair friendly due to the nature of the buildings but that's the only possible downer for some. If you like historical things then this is a must see for any visit to the tablelands and far north Queensland.

This is one of the best historical villages we have been to. It took many years of us driving past before we decided to call in. They have recently extended it and I can't wait for more exhibits.

This is easily one of the best attractions in the Atherton Tablelands no doubt although a bit pricey for a place way out. There is tons and tons of history lessons in it and you will remember all the items you saw in your childhood and what they were used for that has dated with the times. The houses and housing displays are just fantastic and the items well preserved and there are surprises all over one after another that will keep you interested. Brilliant place for school kids who are interested in history that will set them up in good stead. Most enjoyable visit ever and that took at least 3 hours but more if you are keen. Well worth the trip from Cairns so do check it out.

This attraction is so well done and it's down to a person hoarding! A combination of artefacts and original buildings.. it's the most comprehensive range we've seen. This is so well put together. Repurposing buildings and using them as museums for items in the style of a town really suits the area. I checked our guide book and it hadn't mentioned it, we saw it in a brochure, so I'm be emailing Rough Guides! Spent a few hours there and had a very tasty corned beef salad lunch. The corned beef is made by one of them and was perfect. On our list to revisit.

Absolutely brilliant! Have been to most villages of this type but I believe this one to be as good as any. The exhibits were amazing with so much on display and so much information about them all. Highly recommended for any visitor to the Tablelands.

I visited the Historic Village in Herberton10 or 15 years ago and have wanted to go back ever since. Got my wish last week. Oiled up antiques had me reliving my grandparents and my past history; the bicycling knife sharpener the most memorable for me, along with the amazing hearse. We started at Mareeba markets, where there's a shady spot to enjoy their awesome food and admire their primary produce and arts n crafts before you venture through beautiful mountains; loved Mareeba's orchids.
