On Sunday 1 March I did a tablelands tour with a few of my friends and Millaa Millaa was one of the places we visited. You drive in the car park, park the car and in front of you is a beautiful water fall. You can go swimming and get under the waterfall so remember your gopro. There are 2 other waterfalls in the area but they aren't as busy as this one :-)
millaa millaa fsalls is only 4-5 minutes drive from the main road. Upon arrival park vegicle and take a walk along the bush track and take in the wild life and trees. be carful not to touch a stinging nettle or you will know about it. The falls are cold to swim in even on the hottest days but is very refreshing. Don't be tempted to climb up the top and jump in. It has been done in the past with dire results.take a picnic lunch and make an afternoon of it.
These are truly magnificent falls. A must see. Whilst they may be a little out of the way they are so worth the travel to. A magical swimming spot.
Take the waterfall circuit road and pass by all 3 waterfalls:Millaa Millaa is the most beautifull one. No need to bring your hiking gear, park your car in front of the falls.Ellinjaa is also a nice spot, a bit further from the road.the Zillie are also nice to see, but not as spectacular as the other 2.more info:http://rainforest-australia.com/Millaa_Millaa_Waterfall_Circuit.htm
Loved these waterfalls and had an awesome time. We went there on a guided tour which covered the Atherton tabelands area. The tour itself was amazing and Millaa Millaa falls are a highlight of this tour. Refreshing waters and beautiful falls.
went with young children lovelly waterfall but water level was low due to lack of rain ok to swim in but husband got several leeches on his leg which is expected in wet tropic but maybe upsetting for people who dont know about them they will eventually drop. off once full or can br easily removed by grabbing the end attatched and squeeze and pull off worth a visit and a swim few steps to get to waterfall but not a hard climb
We did the waterfall circuit in early January, before the rains began so there wasn't a lot of water. While they were nice I think it probably depends on what other waterfalls you have seen (we have some very special ones in Tasmania). Of the three waterfalls in this circuit, I can see why people say these are the prettiest, but we found the Ellenjaa ones much more I pressive as they had more water and were much bigger and higher. Millaa Millaa is probably so popular because you can swim at the base. Make sure you stop at all three, the middle ones Zillie would probably be the best ones if there was a better view (you can really only see these from the top).I will say these falls were the only reason we deviated from the highway between cairns and townsville and it really took us a long way out of the way, and probably wasn't worth it given the other falls we have seen. I have said allow 3 hours because this is how much time it took for us to add this to our trip. We took the turn off near Gordonvale and it was a very long and very windy road up the mountain at this point - child got a bit car sick.
The Milaa Milaa falls are just amazing, whether there is heaps of water flowing or just a tiny bit of water,it stills makes the area just simply stuunning, you can also swim in the pool as well.
The attraction is free and these falls are in the circuit, so they are worth a look. We went in Winter and did think to ourselves, that they would be lovely in the Summer. They are picturesque, but nothing too amazing, depends on the caliber of water falls that you've seen. In Summer, swimwear would be a must. They have bathroom facilities too.
How can someone rate this below excellent? Easy walk from car park, down to the water. Toilets and change rooms are easily accessible. Put your bathers on and jump in the cool water. You will see the small rainbow fish in the clearer water swimming around. It gets deeper towards the falls. Nice area on the grass to put your towels and gear. Bit of a drive from cairns, but well worth it.
If you are in Far North Queensland this is well worth a visit. Picture perfect waterfall and big pool area underneath that is safe for a swim . Would be a nice place for a picnic or we had afternoon tea at Millaa Millaa which is just down the road. There are some great views on the drive to the falls as well. Don't forget your camera and swimmers !!
Fabulous spot for a swim, very easy access, good amenities block and a beautiful waterfall, why wouldn't you visit?
Easy access and not far from the Palmerston Highway. Nice peaceful spot for a relaxing swim or a picnic lunch. Plenty of parking. Iconic photo spot, especially during wet season.
Quite easy access. Must be mind-blowing after the monsoon season. A peaceful oasis with river turtles sunning themselves on fallen logs. Magic.
But crazy amazing teenagers swimming in the pool and under the falls in August!! They must have been frozen. Would be lovely in the summer tho.
