The day was clear, I had a local friend with me, and we walked all over the place. Some of the most beautiful scenery and local flora I have ever seen.If you have the opportunity, do not miss this attraction, or you will sorely regret it. While I cannot post my pictures, I have really great shots that will help me remember this place forever!

I could see the great potential at this place however the day we travelled here it was horrible and wet. Despite this, the treetop walk was really good. We even came across a snake that had just filled its tummy with something. The drive up to this walkway was a bit scared and there was no signage but on a good day the views would have been spectacular. The restaurant at the top serve really nice food too. Well worth a trip for anyone that has a spare day. There is accommodation at the top however we didn't stay the night.

While building fitness levels to do the big tracks, we have started with smaller easier tracks in the Binna Burra area. The Tullawallel circuit is a relatively easy incline up to a fantastic patch of Antarctic beech trees. Not for scenic lookouts. 3hr return taking it easy. Bellbird lookout is short downhill to spectacular view down Numinbah and Egg rock. Don't let kids get too far ahead if they are likely to run off the escarpment edge. 1hr return same way.The tracks here are mostly well maintained. We went out the Border track as far as Joalah lookout and all was on the easy side. 3hr return. There are plenty of choices here for half day walks as well as the full and two day walks. Binna Burra lodge has an adequate track guide with track ratings and distances. Enough room to spread out here!

Daves Creek circuit - 12 km - moderate difficulty - (3 hrs) with side trips and snack stops. Spectacular views to sth east and sthrn border. Walk through rainforest then out onto path which leads along the escarpment. Feels like on the edge of the world with mist and clouds racing up from valleys below. Caves circuit - 5 km - easy trail especially if you tackle from binna burra end at top of mountain and walk down track. Pleasantly surprising with large caves. Walk back up to the resort the most challenging part of the walkCoomera waterfall circuit - 18 km - a bit trickier with multiple creek crossings ( maybe 15?) but good views of waterfalls that cascade down into comera valley. Took side track to lookout on border track which added about an extra 45 mins with great views to sth ranges and escarpment. Solid walk, not difficult but slow due to creek hopping. Took 6 hours with lunch stop. Some leeches and it was quite dry at the time. Will return to do ship's stern - looks a beauty too!

Walked from O'Reillys to Binna Burra and return (22km each way) as part of the O'Reillys Great Walk package. Changed the suggested itinerary as I had achilles tendonitis and wanted to avoid the 800 step climb to Springbrook's Apple Tree park. Beautiful walk through lush rainforest. Track was well maintained from either end but a little rough in the middle section with tree roots and rocky sections with were pretty slippery in the wet. My walking poles were terrific and would highly recommend for anyone with knee or foot problems as they take a lot of the load and keep you steady over rough terrain. It rained the night before and during the walk which meant there were hundreds of leeches. We sprayed boots and socks with high strenth Bushmans but it hardly deterred them so I ended up with about 26 bites on the first day. Bought an 80% DEET cream at Binna Burra Retreat and it worked wonderfully on the return walk. Leeches all over our boots but not one bite. Would suggest National Parks install more bench seats along the track. Only spotted two over the 22km and neither of these was in a spot where you might have lunch. Very difficult to take a break on the ground, even though we had plastic ground sheets as they were inundated with leeches in minutes.Meals and accommodation at each end were lovely and particularly enjoyed the hot spa at O'Reillys after day two. Great birdwatching from the Tree Tops walk and as part of the morning guided bird walk. Great value package which I would highly recommend.

It was so exciting to be within the national forest with the chance to view in first hand different flora and fauna. We came across birds of many kinds and most common of all was the crimson rosella. The hanging bridge is good to people to do the tree-top walk and in the middle of a big tree you can have a chance to climb up to the tree-top to take a view of the surrounding.

The Lamington National park is a beautiful place to walk. We were there in April 2013 and 60%+ of the trails were closed due to the recent wet weather. We still found nice trails to go, but check the goverrnment website before going as it has up to date trail data.

A visit to the Lamington Natural park is a great adventure to experience the Gold Coast Hinterland. Nick, our driver and guide did an excellent job of imparting his vast knowledge of the area and the different vegetation as we drove up to O'Reilly's. The highlights were the "Tree top boardwalk", feeding the king parrots and the "Natural Arch". As it was a day trip we couldn't fully experience the glow worm cave, but Nick's keen eye spotted some glow worms in the crevices of the cave. A day well spent!

Whilst The Lamnington Park walk is an excellent day out there is another trip, this time not a walk, but a day out in your car. Starting at Nerang ,just inland from Surfers Paradise, tahe the road to Murwillumbah. This is clearly sign posted. You will then proceed throuigh the Numinbah Valley and on your left after about 10ks you wiull see a sigh post "Hinze Dam" about 5ks ,This dam suppltes the Gold Caost with water and is quite spectacular with great rest areas. Returning to the Murwillumbah road drive on through beautiful rural scenery and wonder at the mountain ranges that surroud you. Call in a look at "The Natural Arch" a must see for visitors. After the Arch proceed towards Murwillumbah and at the top of the range you will see the most spectacular views of the Tweed Valley..Then on to Chillingham and there you will see a sign post to Tyalgum. Take this road and in Tyalgum you could have lunch at the Tyalgum Hotel which boasts excellent counter lunches. Next on to Murwillumbah and then to the Pacific Highway that will bring you back to the Gold COast. A really inspiring day out. One Eye Queenslan

The main walk can be done in 3 days , but by staying an extra night in several locations you can enjoy other circuit walks in the area. Great scenery , bird life and in Spring the orchids will be out in flower. We used Auswalk , who arranged our accommodation and luggage transfers to each area. Highly recommended them. After recent rains the waterfalls were at their best , even had to wade a few of the streams/creeks.

GOLDTOUCH
