The building is historic, entry is free, so those are good points. But on the other hand and to contradict some of the glowing review, the building is small, inside is very low light for "conservation" reasons so the signage says, and the art is mostly small, sketch like, simple and with little or no colour. That's about it.

A beautiful old building now used as an art gallery, exhibitions change regularly and there are two exhibition area, downstairs and upstairs. There is a lift for those unable to climb steps. Best thing its free and its airconditioned.

Beautiful artwork, lots of local artists, nice size and comfortable space. Particularly enjoyed the Views of Castle Hill exhibit - even my 13 year old got off her phone to take a look!

We travel with a toddler and this little gallery over 2 levels is certainly family friendly. There is a lift to get to the second level or stairs. They often hold workshops upstairs.

I am very glad I visited the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery during a recent, very brief, visit to Townsville. The building itself is a classic and has been tastefully re-purposed. When I visited there were several interesting exhibitions running concurrently. The main one was of an Australian artist Sue Smith who has painted "Thirty Six Views of Castle Hill" inspired by the renowned Japanese wood block artist, Hokusai who did 36 views of Mt Fuji in the early 1800's.The picture hanging and illumination was top quality and staff were most helpful, and... entrance was free. The air-con was a welcome bonus in this hot tropical city. After the exhibition I went on a mission to find some of the views/subjects in the paintings. This included the historic, first in Australia, Japanese Consulate house in Victoria Street, Queens Gardens, early morning Ross River reflections and the iconic 'Saint' graffiti on Castle Hill itself. The gallery manager, Shane Fitzgerald, told me that visitor numbers have increased a lot over recent years and it is easy to see why. Shane loves his job and goes the extra mile to be helpful. If you are visiting Townsville, don't miss this gem.

Every Sunday we have a ritual of going to the gallery! We love it - it's free and they house some of the most amazing exhibitions !!! Especially over the school holidays! The activities they put on for the kids and exhibitions are awesome!! And it's free!!!!!

This beautiful old building in the heart of Townsville surprised us with the exhibitions they had. The children's exhibition of animals and the interaction of being able to make something was excellent. Upstairs there was another exhibition which was beautifully displayed and very interesting. Well worth a visit.

If you like to draw, go to the life drawing sessions on a Tuesday evening from 6.30 until 9.30. Very friendly people and a great atmosphere to draw.

We come here all the time. We do the markets on the Sunday morning and stop in at the gallery on the way home. It's a relaxing and beautiful space to view art. We love it :)

Went to concerts in this gallery as part of the Chamber Music Festival. The exhibition on was excellent and the small permanent ceramic room held works by Australia's top ceramists, for anyone interested in that field.

We happened across this little jewel of a public gallery during the exhibiting of the Percival Art Prize for portraiture - what a marvelous initiative for Townsville and a terrific exhibition. We were captivated by the paintings across two levels of the Perc Tucker, and sufficiently motivated to follow up with a drive out to the gallery at Riverwalk to view the photography component of the competition. Our only wish was we had the luggage space to take home some of the works. Congratulations to Townsville on a really wonderful display (and a great free catalog to take home!). Highly recommended.
