If you're a nautical buff or like military history, take a walk up Palmer Street and stroll through this great little museum.

Very educational and interesting. A wide variety of artefacts to be seen. The coral displays are extraordinary and very beautiful.

This museum is small but packed with interesting displays that cover the maritime history of the local Townsville region. I especially enjoyed the stories of women who lived through wartime events in Townsville.

Spent quite some time at this museum. Reading the maritime history of the area is fascinating. The displays are well set up, I enjoyed the war time information. The volunteer guide was very pleasant.

Unfortunately were were unable to go inside the museum as we arrived too late and it had closed but the volunteer who was onsite showed us some exhibits outside and we took some great photos of these exhibits. The original light house used on the point many years ago was on display within the grounds of the museum and also the original clock used during the era is also located in the grounds. We also took photos of the sailing vessels moored in the canal behind the Maritime Museum and various items on display within the grounds. Next time we visit Townsville we will certainly go inside the museum to view the exhibits therein.

Been to the Maritime Museum several times of the past years & always learnt something new. It is well done and clean & tidy and all this done by volunteers. Many locals are missing out by not going here, great day for kids to wander through and ask you heaps of questions and nearly all the answers are right there & if not there is a helpful person wanting to answer your question. Displays are easy to follow & read. Anyone who likes to dive should definitely read all about SS Yongala - Eateries over the road so can be a great day all round

My hubby dragged me along to see this, and I was amazed at how well done and nicely presented this was. We have learnt a lot of the ozzy history, and the time and effort which has been put into this is really appreciated by many I expect.

A nice little museum on the southbank, a nice way to take in a bit of the local history mainly centered around WWII. A good way to spend a couple of hours enjoying some of the local maritime, WW2 and the shipping industry history in and around around Townsville.

I had limited expectations of the place and was very pleasantly surprised. Particularly enjoyed the first hand accounts from people who lived in Townsville during WWII and the information on the SS Yongala. the video of the Yongala is very good, but a bit funny as it is so dated.some of the diplay labels need some editing. spoteed some very good typos!

Well organised. the reception person was very knowledgeable and able to answer my questions. more personable than the big museums. good value for money.

This was not only more interesting than the other 'big' museum in town, but has more heart & honesty. Some wonderful treasures here. Well done volunteers, who give their time and their knowledge to ensure Townsville's maritime history comes alive.

A very well organised museum. You cannot help but take in the local history and that from WWII. A must for anyone with an interest in maritime history or WWII or the development of the shipping industry
