We went with a group of 18 and this place was fantastic for that size. There are areas for the kids to play and draw on the chalk wall and the adults can relax and have a few great wines and beers. The pizza was the only real downfall with the bases a bit too thick, the rest of the food was brilliant.I would go back if I was in the area.
Had a nice relaxing afternoon in Mt Duneed Estate's 'Beer Hall', having drinks, battered chips and a dessert. A number of families with young children there. Blackboard and play area to keep children occupied. We have live music playing, very good singer / guitarist (Abe Anderson). Would love to bring family and friends out here.
I went to Mt Duneed Estate for the first time today. From an aesthetic view, it is excellent. Great views over rolling hills, able to sit outside, tables inside not crammed too closely together and well laid out.We went to the bar area to order and ask if we could sit outside and our waiter had to go and ask if we could sit outside. Not sure what that was about, but I would have hoped that whoever served us would have known that answer. After being given permission we ordered. Meno wasn't extensive but what we saw was acceptable and reasonablly priced (or so it seemed),We ordered and proceeded to go outside and wait. The meals we order were pulled pork sliders and salt and sechzuan pepper calamari. The first meal (pork sliders) were delivered on a wooden platter. No cutlery, no napkins, no condiments. There was grease proof paper stuck under the bun that my guest bit into when he took his first bite. This was not a slider as we knew it. Basic white bun x 2 with some Coleslaw and pork inside. I didn't think this warranted a $17 price tag. Approx 15 mins later my meal came out (first mistake to not serve them together) again on a tray with a basic julienne salad (flavours were nice though) and the calamari that had no sechzuan taste nor even a hint of pepper to it at all, served with an oil on the side. Sadly the calamari was tough and difficult to chew. A price tag of $19 on this. Again the waiter placed it down in front of me and walked away immediately. Was I to eat this with my fingers? We look around and saw on another vacated table a little pick up tray that had some cutlery, napkins, S&P etc. we went over and took what we needed and proceeded to eat. Not once were we asked if everything was ok, did we need anything or could they top up the drinks. I found the food average and the service lacking, but enjoyed the concept of the place. To top off a disappointing lunch, I tripped on a raised paver out the front exiting the winery heading into the car park and fell heavily onto both knees. Thank you to a patron also eating out the front who checked if I was ok. I am tempted to return (the pizzas looked lovely and appetising) but I do like good service and I'm not confident I'll get it. Check it out though if service doesn't bother you. On a sunny day it's a lovely venue to be at
we attended the Sting & Paul Simon concert and found this place catered well for a huge crowd. We thoroughly enjoyed the night and found lay out of the area for he concert was well organised. The only little problem we found was there wasn't enough lighting after the concert finished to get out of the place. We were glad we took the bus, which was also well organised, as if you had've driven it would have been a nightmare to get home. All that aside a fantastic venue.
The Barrel Hall is the casual restaurant at the Mount Duneed Estate & Winery just off the main road to Colac near Geelong. It is open for lunch on Wed to Sunday between 11am & 5pm. We also believe on Sunday they have live music. The "Hall" is located in an area within the winery surrounded by old oak barrels and wine tanks making for a great & relaxing atmosphere. Wine tasting is available as is a selection of the local wines and it is "children friendly". The menu is made up of produce which mainly comes from around the local region including the meat, seafood, cheese, etc. We stopped at this winery for a light lunch and the food was excellent ... "salt & Sichuan pepper calamari" and "quinoa salad". There are a number of "gluten free" selections on the menu. We can certainly recommend this restaurant.
I had the opportunity to try out their fine dining and wine. Wines were superb and unbeatable taste. However there is room for improvement for the food. Steak and chicken fillet were kinda dry and the chocolate pudding would have tasted better if it was warm. Just little suggestion.
Visited Mt Duneed Estate for a wedding of close friends. I dropped in early before the wedding to drop off the cake and Jess was a delight to meet and deal with. She was very helpful with cake needs.THe reception room to the right when you walk in has a lovely floorboarded bar area, large enough to feel spacious, yet the wooden wine barrels and other wooden aspects make the room feel really warm and the view is amazing.Like another reviewer, I have driven past many many times between Warrnambool and Melbourne and loved the opportunity to actually see what was in the big 'shed'.Through the glass doors straight through the entrance is a wonderful 'shed' with all the wine distillery emphasising the atmosphere, plus beautiful wine barrels on display and low mood lighting for tasting and meals at the tables. To the right is a cafe we will be sure to come back to and a fantastic giant chalkboard and sand pit area for children. My friends were to be married in the Olive Grove but we missed it due to the weather and instead the ceremony was in an intimate glassed room off the reception room which had a beautiful view of the vines.THe venue also accomodated 'lawn games' for the happy couple and guests and this made the afternoon so relaxed. The staff were absolutely wonderful and the food a delight. An amazing winery well worth the pop in as you drive past.
We have been travelling up the road to where Mt Duneed Estate is for many years, but since it has changed names and totally reinvented the public space, we are very pleasantly surprised by the wonderful renovations that have taken place. It is now a diverse entertainment and food and wine and beer and soon cider complex. The staff are very attentive and there are soon going to be many other yummy treats and additions to tempt anyone who is fortunate enough to find this hidden jewel in the Victorian countryside. There is an amazing indoor children's play area and lots of comfy seating. With summer coming it will be a great place to spend the weekend.A Sunday afternoon that was well spent. We will be back soon.
