I attended the opening of the Organs of the Goldfields Festival where St Matthews Passion was performed. I thoroughly enjoyed the high standard of the conducting of the small orchestra, the chorus and individual singers in parts. It was overall an amazing evening.
My brother & his now wife got married in this magnificent cathedral. Was the perfect setting for such an occasion! Absolutely lovely, inside & out. Worth just having a look inside.
St Patrick's Cathedral Ballarat, is situated on the corner of Sturt and Doveton Streets, in the heart of the city. Its lavish interior and amazing stained glass windows reflect the wealth of the city's golden inheritence and the commitment of Ballarat's Catholic Community in the early days of the city, to ensure they put their mark on the town, as well as creating their place of worship. If you have enjoyed churches in other parts of the world, St Patrick's Cathedral will not disappoint. So too, if you are a lover of gothic architecture and interiors! The church showcases the skills of stone masons, joiners leadlighters and cast-iron workers who migrated to the city in the mid to late 1800s and upon whose skills Ballarat was founded. The Parish was founded in 1852, in the earliest days of the goldrush, with the Cathedral being used for services from 1863 onwards to the present. It was officially opened in 1871, when the parish of Ballarat, was officially recognised.Well worth a look and free!
Magnificent church enjoyed hearing the history of it. Beautiful stained glass windows, very peaceful & solemn.
This is beautiful, peaceful, calming and central church. A must see even attend mass. On a sunny day the light through the stain glass is heavenly. Plenty of parking, very large capacity and has a little shop for religious purchases. Do visit.
Well worth a visit to this stunning cathedral with the most beautiful stain glass windows. The ceilings were beautiful, and the architecture of the building was amazing.
We enjoyed standing in the cathedral and wondering at its beauty and age. Quite awesome and stunning.
It is very beautiful inside. The architecture is quite amazing and worth the look, regardless of beliefs.
This building, is one of the most interesting, Cathedrals, I have ever seen or been in, very interesting, and if you like this sort of think you will not be dissapointed.
Wow the marble around main alter is stunning. Marble in brown tones is a must see. Just beautiful and very tastefully blended into older cathedral fittings. Beautiful visually and a lovely atmosphere.
We attended the 6:30 Saturday vigil, thanks to their website. When travelling having clear times and address information is important, and there website ticked all the boxes. The stained glass windows are a treat, especially when the sun is setting. The pews seemed to be heated, now that's a treat.
An iconic building if you're religious or not, must see piece of Ballarat's history & culture from the gold mining era!
Open and friendly, willing to assist the needs of travelers. Quiet place to say a quick prayer or spend longer reflecting.
We attended Mass on Sunday.Usual cathedral and interesting.Mass times restrictive if you are used to being able to pick from multiple times to attend. We went at 8.30 am
worth a visit if strolling around Ballarat. A lovely sanstone building with beautifully constructed internal roof ceilimng. I found it open at 7pm on a Monday night and looks good in shadowy night lighting. Australian churches do not contain the centuries of history, artwork and artefacts found in UK and European churches but this is one of the better and larger churches to be found in regional Victoria.
