As the majority of the museums in Colonia,it is really small and you can see it in a few minutes. It has some nice objects, but it is a pity that as in the other museums of the town, fotos are not allowed.

The smallest museum I have visited. You can walk through in 10 minutes and nothing special about it. No guides no easy way to understand

At the beginning is a fascinating bunch if world maps spanning the 1500's - incredible. There are only about 5 items about the slave trade, but they cannot be missed.

We got a lot out of a quick trip to the Portuguese museum, including an overview of the differences between Spanish and Portuguese architecture and a look at everyday colonial life.

This museum was included as part of the pass we bought from Museo Municipal. It is housed in an original building with enormously thick walls. There are many rooms which kinda follow the previous layout of the house. The exhibits depict the story of the colonization of the Spanish & Portuguese. There is some impressive furniture, porcelain, guns and maps plus an opportunity to see uniforms on life sized models.

If you like history, this is the place to you. The museum is very well presented, nice place, with notices on the walls telling more about the story of colonization between Portuguese and Spanish antiques.

Great starting point for your visit to Colonia del Sacramento. Everything you wanted to know about the Portuguese colonizing is all here in this little museum.

The museum is a house with 4 or 5 rooms (can't recall now). Two of them are bedrooms, but they do lack some utensils and furniture a typical colonial portuguese house would have.I really enjoyed the kitchen and its wood run stove. That actually reminded me of my grandmother's house in the arid area of the Brazilian northeast.Anyway, it's definetely worth a visit and it's just across the main square.

This was the best museum in the group. We enjoyed the regal look of the furniture and clothing artifacts. We happened to travel the weekend of the nation's bicentennial so they offered free admissions. But each museum costs only about $2, so the price is right.

I feel this way about most of the museums that I saw in Colonia -- the museum was very well maintained, and it was inexpensive, but there wasn't really a whole lot to see. Probably worth taking a look at, but don't go in with huge expectations.

I visited this museum after my walking tour around Colonia. Entrance is quite inexpensive, I think I paid 50 Uruguayan Pesos (maybe 2-3 USD$) for entry, but Argentine pesos and USD are not accepted. A bonus is admission also gets you in to 6-7 other museums around town. The Portugese museum was fairly interesting; they had numerous period costumes, some weapons, and a lot of maps from the colonial era. Unfortunately there was little to no English signage so some of this was difficult to appreciate. However, it did put the surrounding UNESCO site into perspective a bit after looking at old forts and cannons on the exterior.A quick visit for most should suffice.
