one of the landmarks of Asunción, in the very city center, definitely to be visited. You'll find all the heroes of Paraguayan recent history.

You could pretty much see the Cathedral, Theather, Goverment Palace, Legislative building ,and Avenida Costanera in one day. Therefore is it easy to add this to your list as well but I would show up around 4:30 pm when the Color Guard comes and does the flag ceremony each day except Sunday I noticed. Great architecture and environment surrounding with three other plazas in close proximity. Also on special occasion there is sometimes entertainment here. I was lucky to catch the Asuncion Day celebration on August 15. Just remember it is one of the highlights in the city of Asuncion and if you would like a city tour of Asuncion, contact Martin Travel website http://www.martintravel.com.py/ and email: incoming01@martintravel.com.py. Happy Travels!!!

It is the national pantheon of the heroes, the tomb of the unknown soldier and also a small Chapel . Nice inside and beautiful outside especially at night.

From our favorit place to eat and drink, Lido, there is a view to this place just across the street. We saw the pretty young soldiers standing in there finest uniforms with antique rifles and wanted to see what was indoor. Inside you see a pantheon lookalike room with sculptures of importent men and in the midle of the room there is a crypt below with coffins covered with Paraguay flags. There is no explenation anywhere to what is is all about. Afterwards we have read that is a place to remember the heroes from Paraguays wars. It is free to go there and the place is cool, so go there.

On the outside it looks like a small chapel but actually is a monument to the heroes of Paraguay, is guarded by two guards that give more solemnity to the monument.

No big deal really, just a room with coffins and some statues. I have kind of a hard time enjoying the memory of these men, after having read about Fransisco Solano Lopez torturing animals in his childhood, harsh treatment of non Spanish immigrants and of course involving Paraguay in the disastrous war of the triple alliance. Don't bite the hand that feeds you, don't worship the hand that is responsible for the death of 90% of your men.

not too big but something intresting to see at night it is a nice visual as well esp the restaurants that are around are worth visiting....

The Panteon is not very big, but it´s beautiful. On Sundays it works as Church, and at 11am there is Catholic service over there. Around the Panteon you may buy souvenirs. Since you´re already there, go for a bite at Lido Bar, which is right across the street.

If you are coming from the states, you maybe in for a little disappointment when you visit historical sites such as el Panteon. It is a really cool place with lots of history, but when you are used to the Washington Monument, or the Statue of Liberty, the Panteon is a little, well, not the same. The other thing about Paraguay is that there a very few tour guides at any of the attractions if any, so if you were thinking you could spend at least a couple hours learning the history from somebody, you won't find anyone. But its just the culture of Paraguay and if you come with an open mind with no expectations you won't get disappointed, and if you do your learning about Paraguay before hand, the people here really respect someone who has study even just a little about Paraguay.

The center of town near most of the sites..and a nice looking building. A nice park and tourist item vendors are also in area.

It not a big deal, it is sad to see the guards standing in front in the humed hot .weather. Inside it is hot and a whole bunch of history to read

The ignominious war "heroes" in their caskets and urns are on display. Another site worth about five minutes.

The Panteon Nacional de los Heroes is an interesting and somber place to visit. There are 2 guards in front of the entrance. Once inside it looks like a small chapel and below you can see some caskets draped with the Paraguay. A good place to visit and learn something about the Heroes of Paraguay.

This memorial to Paraguay's war dead opens up an interesting aspect of Paraguay's history, particularly the unfortunate outcome of some of the wars which the country has been involved in. The monument is well cared for and beautifully presented, with immaculately uniformed armed guards outside. It is also in a nice location, on the corner of a popular central square.
