Gothic style church which contains some particularly beautiful stained glass windows. You need to park on the street and find a person to pay a parking fee by the hour. We left our car at the cathedral and walked to several other attractions which are close by.Worth a brief visit to see this lovely cathedral. If this review is helpful then please indicate so below.
This gothic church is open to public visitation and house the tombs of Emperor Dom Pedro and his family. The stained glass windows are specially beautiful with sunlights. Don't miss this fine attraction.
It is located very close to Imperial Museum. Such a beautiful church wih the Tomb of Dom Pedro and his family.
I was only able to take a few photos, but would have loved a longer visit. This church holds the tomb of Dom Pedro II and his wife, daughter Isabel and son in law. The stained glass windows are beautiful, even on a foggy day.
The main attraction here are the final resting places of Dom Pedro II, his wife Empress Teresa Cristina, his daughter princess imperial Isabel (who signed the law abolishing slavery in Brazil), and her husband, Comte d'Eu. The church is of the 19th century with the tower finished only in 1969.
A beautiful german like cathedral, one of the best in Brazil. Not as big as Koln's, of course, but a nice view, no doubt. Lacks internal ligthning during the nite. Would be much better if there were internal ligts by nigth.
The cathedral can be visited for free and has very nice colourful stained windows. Try to get there on a sunny day. Half an hour is enough if you do not go there to worship. As mentioned before, the best place to take a picture is from one of the red bridges align Av Koeller.
If you want old world style in the new world - look no further than the Cathedral of St. Peter. Walking around it is very reminiscent of the European architecture of Portugal and Germany.
This is an absolutely stunning cathedral, best photographed from one of the many red walking bridges over the river running into the square from the front of the cathedral.
If you came to Rio de Janeiro, looking for sun, beaches, and it is raining ... Go to the nearby city of Petrópolis, in the mountains just outside of Rio, easily reached by car in a little more than one hour. Petrópolis was the Summer capital of the Brazilian Court. The Royal Family enjoyed it's cool weather and beautiful mountains and valleys. The Imperial Cathedral cannot be missed. Its construction, in the famous neogothic style, started in1884 and was completed in 1960. Beautiful glass windows complete the scenary, bringing you to exceptional moments of peace and introspection. The Royal Mausoleum is a must, with the tombs of Brazil's last Emperor, D. Pedro II, and his wife, the Italian Princess, D. Teresa Cristina di Borbone-Due Sicilie. And finally, avoid free-lancer guides. You do not need them. Enjoy!
The church is beautiful and rich, with design wonderful, and if you go in weekends will find many persons, travelers, being hard take a picture good. The church is near of many point touristic of Petrópolis.
As part of your Petropolis tour this is worth a look. As a cathedral we have been in better but its size and architecture do dominate the city skyline. Inside right, look out for the magnificent onyx , marble & bronze chamber that houses the tombs of Emperor Pedro ll and Dona Teresa Cristina.
A great church, very big and imposing. It's possible to see from almost all the city. Dom Pedro II, Tereza Cristina, Izabel Princess and Conde D'eu are buried inside the church.
Stopped at the cathedral for picture taking while on a tour out of Rio. The interior is gorgeous and has several stained glass windows and statues while the outside is suitable for more pics.
It was a wonderful Cathedral, a lot like Notre Dame in France, but located in a much more beautiful surrounding. The Architecture is breathtaking. One of the main attractions in Petropolis.
